Explore the wetlands of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in a beautiful and environmentally respectful journey.

Meet your guide and group at the dock (3.5km inside the reserve) where the kayaks are waiting to start the adventure. We are very lucky to have Sian Ka'an completely to ourselves once we get on the water.

We kayak in sit-inside kayaks (tandem or single) for about three hours in the calm waters of the mangrove mazes and open lagoons. You will have an incredible journey with your passionate knowledgeable guides full of amazing wildlife and a breathtaking sunset.

Starting times vary seasonally, as the entire adventure is accommodated around the sunset and to avoid the peak heat hours.

Make sure you bring your bottle of water, sunglasses, hat, light comfy clothes (long sleeve shirt to cover from the sun), swimsuit, towel, comfortable shoes, extra set of clothes for the end of the day, biodegradable eco-friendly sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

If you can get past the creepy horror movie vibe you get on the drive and the walk to the kayaks you should enjoy the trip. Antonio was great and took good care of us.
If you have never gone kayaking it’s hard because you are out there for 4 hours so be prepared.
You absolutely need the long sleeve shirt because the sun is brutal until it sets.
It was a great experience.

Absolutely incredible experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. He was very knowledgeable of the area and prioritized the safety of the group and habitat above all else. He was clearly passionate about providing an unforgettable experience, and it truly was!

If you’re looking for a “wild” adventure in Tulum, I can’t recommend this enough. It’s secluded, full of wildlife, and a test of strength if you end up going on a windy day like we did!

I did a solo trip to Tulum and wanted to be able to see more than just Tulum city and the beach. This was an amazing experience and did not disappoint! Our guide was very knowledgeable and respectful of the nesting birds. We saw spoonbills, frigate birds, and even a great horned owl! The scenery was beautiful and the sunset view was everything you could hope to see. As a solo traveler, I had some worries about how I was going to get from Tulum city to the site and back but everything worked out well. A taxi can get you there but if you are solo, let the organizer know and he will help get you back to your hotel.

Excellent tour! Went solo on the sunset kayak tour in February. I was with a nice group of people and two wonderful guides. I had originally planned on biking to the meet up spot but our guides arranged transportation for an additional fee. So glad that was an option as it was dark out when we finished and I would not have felt safe or enjoyed a bike ride back to my hotel. The paddle was very peaceful. We saw only 1 other boat while out. We weaved through mangroves, saw tons of birds, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. Caution: use the restroom before you go as from pick up at my hotel to drop off I was gone 5 hours, with 3 of those hours being on the water. The day after our tour I received an email with pics that the guides had taken which was a great takeaway. It is not a cheap tour, but it was explained that the tour company has to pay lots of fees to bring groups to the reserve and that some of our fees help maintain the reserve. If you enjoy kayaking this is a wonderful experience.

Sian Kaan is a remote and challenging place to get to, and the folks at Yukatan Outdoors did everything they could to ensure that we could get to the meeting place from our hotel for a minimal extra cost, I would advise being flexible with time, especially on the back end, but seeing the sunset and moon rise over mangroves and small islands populated by hundreds of migratory birds was well worth the bumpy road and late return time!

This was certainly an experience to have!!! One of the best ways to get to understand , relax, & appreciate Mexico.
Our tour guide, Antonio, was extra communicative before the day of the tour to ensure we had transportation and were prepared. The location is a little off the beaten path ( literally). But Google Maps got us there no problem.
Our tour guides were so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the area and their jobs as ambassadors to the wellbeing of the Reserve, the birds, and the mangroves.
The kayaks are a little different than your usual short river kayak, and even for someone practiced with kayaking, it took a min to get used to. The tourguides are there to help though.

This is something I would love to bring other family & friends back to experience.

What an incredible, surreal experience! This is unlike any place you’ve been on this planet- you’ll kayak through the shallow lagoon, through bird-filled mangroves as your unbelievably knowledgeable guide educates on aquatic species beneath you. This is truly an unforgettable journey. I recommend reef-safe bug spray for twilight hour

Rick and his team are fantastic guides. They are patient with new kayakers and really know a lot about the mangrove lagoons of Sian Ka’an. The tour started with a lunch of homemade guacamole, felafel sandwiches, trail mix and fresh fruit. Then we got a lesson on how to handle the kayaks and the most efficient way to paddle. From there we hit the water and saw tons of birds and fish. We watched the sunset, then headed to an island rookery to see the birds fly in for the night. I highly recommend this tour. It was the highlight of my trip to Tulum!
