AMAZING experience! Nico was our tour guide and he was wonderful! Treated us like family made sure we were well taken care of! 10/10 recommended. We had some bumps in the road with altitude sickness but he made sure we got to enjoy our experience and make it to Machu Picchu as well as took great care of us!

Most beautiful experience we’ve ever had! Our tour guide, Bernabé, was highly knowledgeable, hiked at a considerate pace, and made the entire 10 mile Inca trail very fun. He found the best spots for us to take memorable pictures and provided very insightful intel on historical architecture, Inca history, and even surrounding flowers and plants on the trail. The final site of Machu Picchu was all worth the hours hiked. Highly recommend!!

We had a fantastic trip and are so happy we chose Tierras Vivas/Inca Trail Machu to help us with all the details of our 2-Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Tour…. and more.

Judith’s quick replies via email and WhatsApp gave me confidence that this company could manage the details for our group of 10. Two travelers took the train all the way to Aguas Calientes and eight accepted the challenge to hike the Inca Trail from the 104km marker to the Sun Gate reaching the Machu Picchu near closing time, a super satisfying accomplishment, nearly 9 miles, 9 hours at 9K ft. altitude.
The same eight hikers conquered Huayna Picchu the 2nd day.

Samuel, our lead guide was absolutely the BEST! His energy, exuberance, knowledge, stories, and encouragement educated and entertained us while also keeping us on pace both days. An excellent photographer, Samuel took photos for us and pointed out the best photo ops! Much praise also for our second guide Javier who was so kind, helpful and patient whether taking the lead or bringing up the rear. Samuel and Javier were instrumental in making our Machu Picchu trip an amazing unforgettable experience. Thank you! Thank You!

We also hired Tierras Vivas to give us private tours of Sacred Valley and Cusco. Edith was our excellent guide, a walking encyclopedia of facts and stories that helped us understand the history, culture, and life of the Incas. We appreciated her flexibility to adjust the tours as needed based on our group’s interest.

Thank you Tierras Vivas for the Memories of a Lifetime!

2 stars for the company - 5 stars for the guide!

So that it is not buried in my challenges… I want to say that my guide Herbert was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, and really made the whole Inca Trail experience for me!! He encouraged me all along the way, set the perfect pace, was funny and a delight to chat with. We shared many a meal and celebratory cerveza, and someone whom I would consider a friend now. Thank you thank you thank you to Herbert.

Now for the challenges :)

Beware if you are going in the off season! Tierras Vivas changed my tour completely from a 2 day tour with camping to a 2 day tour with hotel because I was the only one who booked the tour. They didn’t notify me of this change, nor that I would be traveling solo and I found out the night before which you can imagine shocked and disappointed me… for so many reasons… one because as a solo traveler I wanted to be in a group, and two because I would have packed totally differently if I knew I wasn’t camping so I carried extra weight for a week all around peru for no reason. Furthermore, with this change, it also meant that there was no porter, so I had to carry all my own overnight clothes and lunch food which was more weight than I was expecting to carry or fit in my tiny daypack.

I spoke to the tour operator and they told me that my confirmation indicated this change. It did not, it just had a cheaper price which they expected me to understand and associate with a complete change in itinerary.

Additionally, they told me it would be a 5am pickup originally but the night before told me it would be a 4am pickup which again, is not a fun surprise to find out at the last minute.

Finally, my driver was late to pick me up in the morning so I made it just in time to board my train in Ollantaytambo which added unnecessary stress.

It is important to know that they expect you to be available for a debriefing with them the evening before your trip so plan ahead and don’t make plans!

So to summarize - this tour operator’s communication and organization is lacking, so during off season in particular be sure to push for all the necessary details.

But thank god for the guides!!! Seriously Herbert saved the whole trip for me. And I couldn’t have done it without him. THANK YOU HERBERT for a once in a lifetime experience!!!

Tierras Vivas did impeccable planning for our group of 5 for the 2-day Machu Picchu trek. All the details were communicated clearly, which was amazing as we had booked this exactly 3 years prior and canceled due to COVID. Tierras Vivas still had all of our information and also let us use the deposit we had paid! Jennifer was our tour guide and we adored her! She was the only female guide that we saw on our trek. She knows Machu Picchu trek and gave us so much history- it was really magical and we highly recommend her!!
We also strongly recommend Tierras Vivas for booking your Peru adventure. They are local, which was a big plus!!

Flew in the day before the trek. I drank coca tea and napped for 2 hours to acclimate to the altitude. That night, our tour guide, Bernabe, met us at our hotel and answered our questions about the trek and logistics. The hike was strenuous yet doable for anyone who is moderately fit. I am an older trekker. I had planned for the add-on Huayna Picchu Mountain (which you will want to climb once you see it from Machu Picchu!!), yet I needed to rest my knee.
Our guide, Bernabe, is Quechuan also speaking Spanish and English beautifully. His level of care and knowledge is perfect. I could not have been in better hands, and I highly recommend you book this tour.

If you’re looking for the most memorable experience with minimal effort researching tickets, trains, and transportation, you found the right link.
The entire experience was punctual, as advertised and personable. Our host Samuel was knowledgeable, caring, and a friend.

I booked this experience for my mother’s 54 birthday and she had a smile from ear to ear. The weather in August is perfect for the hike and when you have an amazing tour guide like Samuel, you end up with the best pictures, eat very well in town of Aguas Caliente, and skip the headaches of avoiding crowds in Machu Picchu. It is not the same to enter alone and not understand the history. I recommend Samuel for your tour.

Will be back again and try the 5 day hike. Thank you!

This is a singular experience and perhaps the most beautiful hike I’ve ever been on. Our tour guide was Herbert. He was a wonderful guide and an even better guy. Pack light because the hike is extremely difficult, but worth it. Thank you!
