We combined this tour with the Countryside Jeep Tour. After the hit day of traveling through the Cambodian countryside, it was wonderful to get down to the cool waters and explore the floating villages. We boarded our boat around 4:445 pm and traveled along the floating villages on the largest lake and I mean large. I thought I was in the ocean at times. Smooth as glass but the lake went to the horizon. We traveled along the shoreline seeing homes on stilts and some floating. There are several floating schools, dry docks for boat repair and floating restaurants. We ended up at one of the floating restaurants for an evening of local foods experiencing alligator, chicken, vegetables and fish. All were tasty and well prepared. Along with a few bottles if wine, we watched the sun disappear over the waters edge. What a great time!!

Our male-only group had a really good time with our guide Mr Sopheap on this outing to kampong Phluk. It consisted of a drive my minivan and about 40 minutes and then a slight wait while a boat was organised (and of course loading of refreshments). Then we embarked on the slowest of boats whch made its way left and right around the small waterways around the village. The houses are mostly perched at the top of 10metre wooden poles. We stopped at the pagoda on the biggest of the small islands. The guide was brilliant. Van was adequate. Boat was a bit rickety. But a great tour overall.

A great little morning tour of the village on long wooden stilts. Sit back and enjoy the minivan ride down the main road and onto side roads to the port. Then take a pleasant little phut phut cruise by basic wooden motor boat around the villages. It’s quite big but best not to let your mates drive the boat. Good car and friendly local guide who was game for a laugh.

After enjoying the delights of Pub street and cheap beer, we finally tried some serious sightseeing. This was well organised tour of Kompong Phluk by minivan (there was a few of us!). The van was good condition but lucky to get through the muddy road conditions. Sat on the boat and waved at the folk at the floating villages who fished, swam, cokked and did their laundry. Great guide. Skilled driver. Well done!

Siem Reap is quite well-developed from what I saw. Lots of modern buildings and well-known brand names. Everyone has a motorbike, and mobile phones, and clothes. But when you go just 15 kilometres outside of the city centre, you see the real Cambodia. It is quite shocking. I visited the stilted villages at the kampong pluck. All the houses perched on 10 meter high poles so they do not get submerged when the lake water level rises during the wet season. Our boat maneuvered around the waterways of the village. Not at all like Venice. Children and women played and worked on the rickety wooden platforms dressed in rags and frequently half-naked. The wood buildings covered with corrugated metal roofs were painted in bright colours and decorated with plants, but the squalor is still relevant. I kind of enjoyed it. On a positive note, I must say the tour company itself provided a good tour. It was well organized and professional.

The floating village people all seemed happy enough, but life must be tough, living over a lake. The tour was well organized. Good transport and great guide. Very talkative and funny. But very informative. But if seeing poverty depresses you, better not come to Cambodia at all. I recommend bringing small denomination money to give some gifts.

There are 3 floating village areas in case you didnt know. One is just down the road a we while and we heard its not so good. So we went to Phluk village which is a fair drive out of town. The first part is by good road and then youre into small roads and dirt track. Finally you get to the boat and have a nice little put-put around the village with a stop at the pagoda on the hill. It was pretty good. Feel sorry for the folk that live there.

Did a private tour of water villages by car and boat. Went well. Good organization and very good quality vehicle. The boat trip was quite good but mind your head when moving around in boat. Interesting experience and guide most informative.
