Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Preston was a fabulous guide to our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (9yr & 11yr). Patient on parts we had trouble with. Encouraging. Loved that this outfit takes all sizes no max or min weights. Also loved that it was a private one just our group. They were very safery concious too and chnaged our time so we got it in before storms. Thanks Preston!

Our family of 4 had an incredible canyoneering trip with Herb through Desert Highlights! He was incredibly patient with all of us and made sure everyone felt safe and confident. Herb’s extensive knowledge of the area's topography and geography added an educational twist to the adventure. The routes were perfect, offering exciting challenges and stunning views. The whole experience was very personalized and one of the best adventures we've had as a family. We highly recommend Herb and this company for an unforgettable canyoneering experience!

We brought a very large group of young men to experience Moab Canyoneering. We wanted a group that specialized in just what we needed. We chose Desert Highlights for that experience.eveeythi g went extremely well. From waivers, and planning to making sure the boys (and leaders) felt safe and courageous. Thanks to Melissa, Herb, Kai, Jake, Preston, Joe, and Kiera (hopefully, I got the names right and didn't miss anyone) were all so professional, fun, and kind. Any big groups out there that want an experience of a lifetime, this is it.

This was an awesome half-day trip and a great introduction into Canyoneering. Kai was a fantastic guide. She is so good working with novices and we had so much fun chatting with her. Now that we’ve had a small taste of rappelling, can’t wait to do it again!

We chose Desert Highlights based on reviews, and we were 100% happy with our choice. We did the half day trip to Medieval Chamber and Morning Glory Bridge. My 14-year-old handled each rappel like a pro, but my 11-year-old had a really difficult time getting over his fear when faced with the drop. Our expert guide, Kai, handled this challenge with patience and skill. She was kind and supportive, and at the end of the day he said it was fun and that Kai was the best tour guide he’d ever met!
The hike after the rappels was beautiful and gave everyone a chance to cool off in the water. Don’t think twice about booking with Desert Highlights!

My family (kids 13 and 9) went canyoneering with Desert Highlands in April and had an amazing experience. Could not give a higher recommendation. Melissa and Herb were fantastic - patient, encouraging- wonderful. This was my second time canyoneering with Desert Highlights and I hope to do it again.

This was our first time canyoneering and we are in our 60's with no prior rappelling experience. Ed was a Fantastic guide. We appreciated his expertise, guidance and patience. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, native plants and trees. Communication was great. I was able to talk to someone when setting up this trip who answered all my questions. This is an adventure we will enjoy looking back on the rest of our lives. Amazing! I Highly recommend Desert highlights!!

Great experience!! Desert highlights is a fantastic operation. The office communicated with us from the moment of our booking, through changes due to weather, and preparing us for our day. Our guide Kai was exceptional. We enjoyed chatting with her about the area on our hikes to the canyoneering spots. Once there, Kai carefully explained the whole procedure and demonstrated for us as this was our first time. She made us feel so comfortable, safe and confident to take this on! And WOW! The experience is just awesome!! We had two 100 plus drops, one into medieval chamber, and the other between one of the huge arches on the grand staff trail. Truly exhilarating! I highly recommend Desert Highlights for this experience!!

My wife and I took our first canyonnering tour with Desert Highlights in the last century (1999)! Last week, we did our 4th tour with them and our first since 2003. Ed was a great guide and was able to pivot quickly when our originally planned trip wasn't going to work out. We still ended up having a great day! We are in our 60s now and canyoneering was just as fun and exhilarating as it was on that first trip 25 years ago. DH is the BEST!

We had such a great experience on the trail with Jake, our guide! He was so kind and patient with our kids. We all had the time of our lives and will recommend this tour company to everyone we know traveling to Moab.
