Our all included tour is the best option to enjoy this beautiful volcano which travelers have rated it as the most beautiful volcano in all Central America, its beauty is due to the twin volcano Fuego which is active and performs an extraordinary eruption for all the travelers at our camping area on Acatenango.

Our company is located in front of the Fuego Volcano and if it is clear enough you will be able to see Pacaya and Agua volcanoes as well.

Each tent has a pillow, – 6°C sleeping bag, extra blanket, a 5″ or 12cm comfortable mattress, under the matt all over the tent we have a waterproof carpet to isolate the cold from the bottom, also the tent is inside a wooden cabin to isolate the cold from the top.

In our tourism project we work together with a cooperative of local guides CAT (Comité de Autogestión Turística) conformed by the people of the community San Jose Calderas, Chimaltenango.

We attended Acatenango Overnight Hike with CA Travelers. My review would be two parts. The company and the guide, as we had completely different experience with the two.

I think overall this company is a good company (except their guide selection - which I will come in 2nd part) to organize tours/transfer tickets. They are very helpful (especially people at their office). The Acatenango overnight hike was also well organized with transport, meals, accommodation and overall hike.

Guides are a completely different story. Our guide was Will during the hike and he was by far the least qualified guide we ever worked (we did many organized tours/hikes). His only skill was speaking a little bit English but he was completely lacking any sort of qualifications you would expect from a guide. He was like a high school kid with an attitude. Our tour started by him bragging that how much crazy stuff he did by going to the crater of the volcano. That's the last thing I would like to hear from my guide that I want to trust to guide me during a hike to an active volcano.

Throughout the hike he manipulated people on making decisions that could be very dangerous for them. If he wanted people to book porters, then he would exaggerate how hard the hike to base camp, if he wanted people to book the extra Fuego hike (the active volcano), then he would downplay how hard / how long the hike would take (he said it's an easy 2 hour hike and it took 4+ hours with a very high pace. several people got very sick during this hike), or he would say climbing up to the summit is 4 times harder and not worth it compared to Fuego (which was not true at all, he only wanted to avoid waking up at 3 AM to guide the group). We ended up going to Fuego with a different, non-English speaking guide -which was not something I think should happen. During the Fuego hike Will (only English speaking guide) was enjoying listening songs and watching a football game at the base camp.

He is also the most unprofessional/rude guide I've ever seen. After the Fuego hike when we were resting before the dinner, this guy was watching a football game on his phone in Spanish connected to the speaker very loud. Everybody had to listen the commentary (imagine we are in front of a bonfire watching the volcano in a bliss and very loud match commentary banging on the speakers). As I asked him if he could lower the volume, he shouted at me "how come?" several times, and kept watching his game.

Overall, the Acatenango Overnight hike was a good, well organized hike (transport, meals, gear rental and accommodation) but the guides should be more qualified than teenagers with half English on an active volcano. They should also inform their guests much better in terms of how hard different sections of the hikes and also about potential dangers on being on an active volcano.

An incredible trip, super good logistics, I consider that the cost-benefit ratio is quite good, everything they provide you (food, equipment, transportation and guides) is enough to have an incredible time.
Only 2 recommendations:
1- Just because 95% of the group speaks English does not mean that they do not explain in Spanish, what about the other 5%? They assumed that everyone spoke English and the entire tour was explained in English when there were people who spoke Spanish.
2-I think it would be good if they gave more explanation or advice on how to climb and use the equipment since there are many people who are not experts and it is the first time we do this route.
I highly recommend them.👍🏻

If you’re looking to hike Acatenango or take any other tour while in Antigua, look no further than CA Travelers. The entire experience was perfectly curated. The food that was prepared for us (lunch, dinner, breakfast, and a smoothie upon return) was incredible and had hikers who had gone with other companies jealous of our group. The guides were awesome and we always felt supported throughout the hike. The sleeping accommodations were excellent. As opposed from other companies that had tents sleeping as many as 6-8, we had wooden cabins with comfortable mattresses, pillows, and sleeping bags, and there were only two people per cabin. Beyond all of that, my favorite aspect of CA Travelers is that it is run by a husband and wife who are passionate about supporting the local communities. The wife, Fara, is actively involved in supporting local schools and providing work opportunities for those in need. She also partners with Antigua Brewing company to where she provides everyone in the group with free drink tickets if they pick up trash along the hike. Not to mention she has incredible energy and got everyone excited for the challenging hike. I truly can’t say enough good things about CA Travelers, so do yourself a favor and book with them.

Hike was brutal but the guides were very accommodating and helpful. I do not speak much Spanish, however the guides understood and found ways to communicate with me throughout the trip. They would let the group space out and keep guides throughout so you weren’t ever alone and never felt rushed. Food was great and accommodating for many different diet types.
