You will see much more than volcanoes!

“3 days in Java” is a great adventure tour that will take you to the amazing Bromo and Semeru volcanoes, as well as the fantastic Kawah Ijen complex.

The journey starts at sea level and gradually brings you up to an altitude of 2,300 meters. During this trip, you will climb stunning active volcanoes, dance at the edge of the calderas and descend into the Kawah Ijen crater to witness its magical “blue flames”, a unique phenomenon, as well as the largest sulfur acid lake in the world. You will also be able to observe the daily lives of the sulfur mine workers within the crater.

You will get to visit two of the top ten most fascinating volcanoes in the world during this tour.

Over three days and two nights, you will get acquainted with the local culture and have the chance to visit typical Javanese villages, see coffee plantations, try traditional local food and witness the incredible beauty of your surroundings.

Everything was well-planned and organised from start to end.

Our guide, Fany and the driver took good care of us.

At Bromo and Ijen, the guides, Harry and team were great as well. Had an awesome experience!

Accommodation on first night at Bromo was okay, albeit a little stinky. Second night was great and I managed to get some proper rest.

Overall, the experience was great and I do not have any regrets signing up with IndoTravel Team. Once in a life-time experience! Pierrick also maintained constant communication through email from the day I applied on their website to flying into Indonesia.

Please forgive me if I misspelled the names 😅

3 unforgettable days! Brilliant organization, super quick responses to all our questions before the tour, very very appreciable flexibility.
we have nothing to think about for 3 days (thank you Arthur for your patience, all your explanations and your constant attention!). Of course it is physical and tiring (we have been warned in advance) but we have no regrets! And despite some hazards (independent of the team) we enjoy the unreal experience to the fullest!
Special mention for (Bromo), Mono (Ijen), Ressa and the last driver that we had until Ubud (whose name I don't remember).
Thanks to the whole team ! <3

My wife and I booked this trip for Thanksgiving 2023. We were both extremely pleased with every aspect. There are a lot of different booking options available out there, but at the end of the day we were fortunate to stumble upon Indo Travel Team. I'm very glad we went with them, and I can't imagine a better planned, guided, or adventurous trip.

COMPANY:
We chose Indo Travel Team after searching for packages because they were reasonably priced and other travel bloggers referred them. We've traditionally looked on Klook, but we've learned that those can be a crapshoot and you never know what you're going to get. They did a fantastic job with this package. Pierrick was extremely responsive and leading up to our trip replied to my emails very quickly and always on the same day. Once we were picked up, we didn't have to do much thinking at all because everything was so well planned out. We were also pretty nervous since this was our first trip to Indonesia, but everyone we interacted with was extremely professional and courteous. Even those who weren't part of Indo Travel Team.

LODGING:
You'll stay at 2 hotels during this trip, both of which have WiFi. The first, at Mt. Bromo, is on the edge of the caldera and the scenery is gorgeous. This hotel is at high altitude (2,000+m) so it can get chilly, but the rooms are warm and comfortable. They make it clear that this package is for adventurers, so this hotel is not a resort. But we hiked Mt. Fuji last year and we slept on the floor of a shared hut with 40+ strangers, so having our own room on Mt. Bromo was great. The next lodging, for Kawah Ijen, was a traditional western style hotel. It was much hotter at the second location, but the hotel had WiFi and A/C, so it was very comfortable. You'll only be at each hotel for a short while anyway, so we were surprised at how comfortable they were.

FOOD:
You'll be given so much food over these few days. We never even touched the snacks we packed. You'll be provided dinner the night before Mt. Bromo, coffee/snacks while hiking Bromo, breakfast after Bromo, lunch en route to Kawah Ijen, dinner before Kawah Ijen, and then a huge breakfast after hiking Kawah Ijen. We never really had a chance to get hungry before we were served the next meal. Everything was absolutely delicious, and you can tell the guides put a lot of thought and effort into each meal.

TRAVEL:
We flew into Surabaya to save on travel time and were driven to Mt. Bromo. This was about 2.5 hours, versus 8+ hours from Bali. Our driver, Faiza(?) was great and told us all about the countryside and mountains, and answered many of our random questions. After Mt. Bromo you'll be taken to Kawah Ijen, which can take several hours. This is a trek for adventurers after all. You'll stop for lunch on the way and the driver can stop for any needed break, so we had plenty of time to stretch our legs. After Kawah Ijen you'll be taken to Bali and traffic in Bali dictates this travel time. We took another 6-7 hours. This may be a lot of riding in a minibus, but the scenery really is gorgeous. I never knew just how many volcanoes Indonesia has and you'll see dozens along the way. You'll turn a corner and see a towering, 10,000' behemoth belching smoke. It's really stunning.

HIKING:
Hiking Mt. Bromo was the easier of the two. You'll shove off around 3am and visit two locations; Mt. Bromo's rim and King Kong Hill. each hike takes about 30 minutes each? Give or take 10-15 minutes. Kawah Ijen is definitely more challenging, but I wouldn't call it challenging. You'll leave the hotel very early, around 1am, and then begin the hike at ~2:30am. You'll have to crest the rim and descend into the crater, so this hike takes longer, about 1h30m. We were extremely lucky and the blue flame was quite large, but there was also a lot of smoke. The gas masks realllly helped. The guides know all the best photo spots and will take plenty of photos along the way too.

LUGGAGE:
I couldn't find definitive information about storing luggage when I was searching, so I want to include it here for others. We had luggage with us the entire trip and we never felt like it was unsecure. At Mt. Bromo it stays in your locked hotel room while hiking. However, you will take it with you when hiking Kawah Ijen since you won't return to the hotel. Your luggage stays with the driver in the minibus and we had no issues whatsoever and felt comfortable the whole time.
