Amazing views, also wildlife. Beautiful lagoons connected between them by canals. Ride a boat on the lagoons and canals, then jump in to the water and lazy float on the current of a canal.

My best excursion in Tulum. José was a great guide. He was very knowledgeable and we had a fantastic time in the canals, the ruins and at the cenote.

Beto was the best guide! We started off at the shop where he took us to our destination. Once we arrived at the shores of the Sian Kaan, we hopped on a boat that took us across protected areas and into Mayan made canals. Eventually we stopped and put our lifejackets on upside down and started our 45 minute float. Beto has the sharpest eyes! He was able to see so much wildlife that we would have missed on our own. The waterways were so silent. Everything felt so peaceful on the float. Next we hiked back to our boat and made our way back to land. Our next stop was ruins in Muyil. Beto was very knowledgeable about the Mayan history. We ended our day at a chilly but refreshing cenote for a swim. Highly recommend this tour and Beto as your guide!

The views were amazing. Our guide, Beto, was absolutely amazing. He was knowledgeable, welcoming, fun, and an inspiring environmentalist. If/when I come back to Tulum, I will book another adventure with him specifically.

We had a fantastic day with Beto in Sian Kaan Lagoon and at a Cenote.
Beto taught us a lot about Mayan culture, the history of the Yucatan peninsula, and, of course, the beautiful natural area of Sian Kaan. It was just my husband, myself, and Beto, which made for a special tour. He is a steward for the earth and a chill guy! Thank you for the beautiful day out Beto. We will never forget the Mayan Diaper!

I’ll start by saying our guide, Beto, was fantastic. He was likable, knowledgeable, and a wonderful steward of the earth, literally picking up every single scrap of trash that we saw on our trip. I can’t say enough good things about him. I’m going to break down each section of our tour into categories and rate those below.

Guide: 5/5 (as expressed above)

Boat ride through Sian Ka’an lagoons/water ways: 5/5
Our boat captain was impressively skilled at maneuvering us through the narrow channels quickly and safely, and he made it super fun!

Floating through the mangroves: 5/5
Wearing the “Mayan diaper” and floating through the mangroves was an incredibly relaxing beautiful experience. I could easily do that all day!

Muyil Ruins: 5/5
The Muyil Ruins we’re great, even though we didn’t see any howler monkeys on our tour. As lesser known ruins, we enjoyed the peacefulness and sanctuary of the site, as there were no vendors attempting to solicit us on the property, unlike at Chichen Itza. There was also plenty of shade around the ruins, which was nice.

Sian Ka’an nature hike/lookout tower: 4/5
After the ruins, we walked through the reserve a little bit. We didn’t get to see much, but we did climb to the top of the lookout tower (which honestly looks like it was constructed rather sketchily, but it held up through our passing at least!). The views from the top of the tower were stunning.

Escondido Cenote: 3/5
Having been to several cenotes in this region, I felt like the Escondido Cenote fell a bit flat. It was fine, but there are definitely better options in the area, and there was nothing that stood out to me as special or noteworthy about this cenote. Since the tour ends at this cenote, the day did not end on a high note after all the other fabulous activities.

Lunch: 2/5
Bring your own lunch and you will likely be more satisfied. My husband liked the lunch but he would eat his own shoe and enjoy it. Also, we’ve been on many other tours which were less expensive than this one, and the lunch provided on those tours was far superior.

Communication: 2/5
The night before the tour, I received an email confirming the tour. The email included a list of things that would be helpful to bring, including sunglasses, a hat, towel, and biodegradable sunscreen. The tour information on Trip Advisor also suggested bringing insect repellent. However, when we arrived the day of the tour, we were told that we could not use either biodegradable sunscreen nor insect repellent due to the sensitive ecological balance of the Sian Ka’an reserve and the Cenote. This is completely understandable. However, the confirmation email should have explicitly stated this so that we could be appropriately prepared for the day. Because of the misinformation, we all sunburned quite badly and were also eaten alive by mosquitoes and horseflies. On the other hand, the email did provide a Google map link directly to the dive shop where we met to begin the tour, which was very helpful.

We had a great experience! Nico was our very kind and cool guide who took us to the Sian Ka’an area, Muyil temples and the cenote. He had a lot of knowledge about the fauna and flora, the history of the peninsula, Mexico and South-America in general. He was our kind of guy and the trip was perfect for us 😀 also the lunch we had tasted so good! Would recommend!

It was a fantastic experience. Niko knew a lot and was able to help us tremendously with extra information about the fauna and flora. He also has a lot knowledge about the history of the country and good advice regarding travelling to the rest of South America.

Tour guide was nice & knowledgeable about local fauna, but the experience was not at all worth the steep price.

Pros: lovely tour of Sian kaan with a knowledgeable guide.
Cons: We spent half as much time at the Sian Kaan biosphere as advertised on the website, and the quality of the food provided for lunch was poor. Overall we felt this trip was inappropriately expensive compared to other tours we took in the area.
