Venice is gorgeous, but it is a lot! Rachel (a now-native from Ohio) and her husband Mario enhanced our experience and made our (family of five with young adult/teens) three-day, post-cruise visit to this beautiful but crowded city SOO much easier. From our transfer from Trieste (during the G7 Summit - the city was all screwed up), then meeting up for great pictures spots, a gondola ride, then off to bars and restaurants. Our first day in Venice was filled with great sites and amazing food.
Day two was Prosecco country - don’t skip this even if you think you’re not into Prosecco. We’re not wine connoisseurs, but just seeing the countryside is worth it. Of course, the wine was delicious, but we’re not necessarily wine people so it’s awesome having an expert explain to you what it is your tasting and why it tastes as good as it does. And we got back to the city in time to stroll around at night get a little bit more to eat and do some shopping.
Day three was taking a cooking class in Padova. Why go to Italy and not learn how to cook some of the cuisine? We went to the local market and then we were invited into a lovely home and taught how to make an amazing three course meal.
Delicious!! We had enough time to see Padova and get back to Venice, again for maybe a light bite, strolling, and some more shopping.
And then, of course, there’s all the extra advice. Places to eat near your hotel in Venice, advice on using public transportation, and the ease of being able to move around Venice with two folks who fluently speak Italian and may not be charged the “tourist tax” for things like water taxis, and the like.
In and out of the city, they were responsive, helpful, insightful, and really made our three night trip to and around Venice easy and amazing. Can’t recommend them enough!

Mario is the most knowledgeable and genuinely caring person me and my fiance have ever had the pleasure of learning from.
We had an amazing experience and discovered a world of wine that we had no idea existed.
We plan on returning as soon as possible!

What a wonderful day we had with Mario, our Italian Sommelier, Prosecco tasting in Valdobbiadene. Mario was so fascinating and knowledgeable, not only regarding the Prosecco but also Italian food and culture. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Phillippo in Croset Vineyard and tasting his delicious Prosecco, including still Prosecco which we had never tasted before. We decided to purchase and have some shipped (Mario was extremely helpful with arranging this) along with meeting Christina in Campion Vineyard with their equally wonderful Prosecco which we also purchased! We had a superb lunch in a family owned Osteria in the hills with fresh homemade food all from their own farm. The scenery was stunning and we feel very knowledgeable ourselves now - that much so that we are becoming Prosecco snobs and searching our area for only the best. AMAZING day in the Prosecco region with Mario. Super educational experience and fun all at the same time. We worked together to make a wonderful itinerary. The level of service and hospitality was unmatched. As someone who works in the wine industry I can say I was impressed from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and leave the heat and crowds behind in Venice and escape to the beautiful wine regions in Northeast Italy!

Due to a train strike we missed our planned trip to Prosecco Road and found the company we had booked with uncooperative in helping us recover so as we sat in the Venice train station we started looking for an alternative plan and fortunately found Venice Day Trips. Their response and follow-up was a welcomed reprieve. Rachel helped us work out a schedule that would allow us to still have our day trip from Venice but make it back to Siena the next day. Once we met up with Mario our adventure could not have been more enjoyable. Mario is a superb guide and a certified sommelier. We visited a family owned, small winery (our favorite) and a larger winery. The drive, the tour of the wineries and the delicious lunch we had at Borgo Col Vini made for one, if not, our most enjoyable day trips in Italy. Mario was flexible and had worked in planned rest stops and stops at beautiful vistas for pictures. Rachel and Mario went overboard to ensure that we had an excellent, worry free trip. When Mario dropped us at the train station, Rachel was there with a huge bag of snacks and a chilled bottle of wine for our train ride to Siena. She knew we would be arriving late and not have a chance to dine. She walked us into the station to make sure that our train departure had not changed and to make sure we found the correct platform for departure. I don't know when I have experienced better attention to customer service than with Rachel and Mario. We will certainly use them our next trip to Italy and would recommend them highly! Thank you Rachel and Mario for such a memorable day trip!.
