Worth every step you take. Will come across where Marco Polo was born among so many more hidden areas. Small shops and tiny streets and alleys. All safe and a must see.

This walking tour of Venice lasts one and a half hour and should be booked in advance at the tourist office.
The tour is a good introduction to Venice, with a knowledgeable guide offering a mixture of hardcore information and insights in daily life in Venice (street names, water supply, garbage disposal, …). No interiors are visited.
The walk started with a surprisingly short overview of Piazza San Marco. I guess the guide judged that we had already read everything there was to say in our guidebook ?
We quickly moved away from the crowd and entered the Castello District (Campo Santa Maria Formosa, Scuola Grande di San Marco, Santo Giovanni e Paolo, Fondazione Querini Stampalia).
Next up we made a few stops in the Cannaregio District (Santa Maria dei Miracoli, birthplace of Marco Polo).
The tour ended at the Rialto Bridge.
