Enter a world that time has forgotten, the single most important breeding ground in Southeast Asia for globally threatened large water birds. Visit the floating villages and cruise across the Great Tonle Sap lake, the largest fresh water lake in Southeast Asia. The trip will also include a visit to 2 different fishing villages.,at Prek Toal we will meet up with the rangers boat at the rangers office(floating) and than enter the Bird Sanctuary,we go where only the rangers boats can travel, our expert guide and the rangers guides know the best viewing spots,we also use smaller row boats to enter with minimum noise, the main breeding areas, there is a viewing platform out there so we can get the best views possible, This is a very unique insight into some of the very rare and endangered species of water birds, and we have been conducting tours out here for 20 years so we know our way around.Lunch stop with Queen Tara incl drinks, enjoy the stunning scenery from the biggest boat on the lake.

Not much of birding
Our guide though was good
We had a relaxed peaceful lunch on Queen Tara
Great work of conservation going on
Water level is high now so we could see darters & cormorants birds who could fish deep in water
Visited Osmose conservation project & saw how water hyacinth is being put to good use

This trip was through Tara Riverboat Tours and to be honest, I was a little hesitant but the other trip provider was sold out for the 2 days we were available. However, we totally lucked out! The trip turned out to be a private custom tour. There were only 2 people on our trip, my husband and myself, plus our guide, the boat driver, and a tender. Our guide was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the sanctuary and the birds currently in the sanctuary. We saw numerous nesting storks, cranes and pelicans from the observation tower they have set up and a few other birds along the way. We went through several floating villages but did not stop. Our guide talked about the villages though and pointed out the markets, etc. A really nice lunch was provided on the Queen Tara which was anchored on the lake. This tour really far exceeded our expectations in every way.
