This half-day walking-tour presents two of Vienna’s most outstanding periods, Baroque and Art Nouveau.

We skip-the-line to explore the Upper Belvederes refined interior. The Austria Gallery’s highlight is the Kiss by Gustav Klimt – presented among ten other Klimts and works of his contemporaries like Schiele and Kokoschka.

Baroque gardens always hide little surprises – lets decipher them.

The open spaces of Schwarzenbergplatz and Karlsplatz offer unique vistas spanning periods from the seventeen-hundreds to WWII.

An art nouveau signature building itself the Secession holds another Kiss at the end of Klimt’s “illustration” of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

At the end, Naschmarkt invites you to explore Vienna’s culinary diversity or just relax with an al fresco lunch or afternoon snack.

Walter was great. Pace was perfect and the Belvedere was exquisite. Stopped for a beer at local pub which was quite enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour with Walter.

Walter was a great guide. He was knowledgeable and charming. The art history was well presented and explained though the tour. He easily adjusted to the slower walking pace of a member of our party and made it an enjoyable morning. There is plenty of walking, so be aware of that. But highly recommend.

We were impressed with Walter's knowledge of art and history. However, he is more of a lecturer than an engaged guide, and his humor is a bit dated (we didn't really need the wife and boobs jokes). His walking pace is quite slow, and while we didn't mind, some may find his limited energy frustrating.

Excellent. Guide was very knowledgeable about the museum, and the paintings contained therein. He was also able to get us in early, and explained the buildings around the palace.

Walter was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and interesting. He did a great job navigating the crowds at Belvedere and sharing information about the artwork, particularly regarding Klimt. The walking and duration of the tour were perfect. I would recommend this tour to anyone wishing to visit Belvedere and/or learn more about Gustav Klimt and his works.

Walter is a wonderful tour guide! I would highly recommend him for any tour, but especially the art nouveau tour. Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze at the Secession is not to be missed.

We worked with Walter to arrange three half day tours while we were in Vienna. First, he arranged for my husband and I to take a morning tour of “hidden gems” with his associate Hans. We totally enjoyed the walking tour with Hans, finding him to be both highly knowledgeable and personable. His knowledge of history is encyclopedic, yet he was able to bring it down a notch to our level and make it highly digestible.
Our second and third tours were both with Walter, a true delight. A half day tour by van introduced us to the beauty of Schönbrunner gardens, Hindertwasserhaus, Prater and other attractions. All of it made more fascinating by Walter’s stories and charming wit.
Last but not least was an afternoon in the Vienna woods and walk through the vineyards. (Kisses from Vienna). On this trip we learned more about the day to day lives of Vienna locals, past and present, and experienced the refreshing countryside just outside of the city. A nice break from the normal tourist attractions and if the weather is amenable, a perfect complement to city based activities.
Throughout all of our planning and tours Walter worked to tailor our experience to our wishes while gently guiding us to several experiences which we may not have thought of on our own. If you are taking the time to visit Vienna we highly recommend making a small investment and booking with Walter Schindl who will make a good trip an exceptional experience. Both Walter and Hans speak excellent English and are highly qualified guides in every respect.
He is very popular for good reason. Book early.
