- Meeting point and pick-up with your Chauffeur and drive to Pompeii first.
- Entering Pompeii by the Sea Gate with your Licensed Tour Guide you will experience how the citizens of the greatest empire the world has ever known lived and loved, worked and played, ate and drank and died. Because of the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, twenty feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered Pompeii.
- In the second part of the day you will drive south via the motorway towards Mount Vesuvius, Europe's only still-active volcano.
- Driving along the winding roads of the volcanic slopes, admiring stunning views of the Neapolitan and Caserta plain, until approximately 3,000 feet, where the road comes to the end.
- There (if you want!) begin your trek on foot over narrow paths that zigzag up the mountain another 1,000 feet to reach the very top of the crater, to walk along the rim to get the very best pictures.
- Once back to the parking lot you will proceed back to the hotel.

We had booked a private tour with pick-up in Naples. We were picked up on time in a Mercedes Vito and brought quickly to Pompeii. The guide Luigi was already waiting for us. He introduced us to the highlights in Pompeii in a professional, entertaining and enthusiastic manner. After a short lunch break, we drove on to Vesuvius. On the way, we were shown the most important facts about Vesuvius and the highlights. The tour guide got us last-minute maps, which are obviously not that easy to get. After an approx. 1-hour ascent and descent to the crater, we were brought back to the starting point. The view from Vesuvius is magnificent. The visit to Pompeii was absolutely worthwhile and impressive. You could save yourself the approx. 1-hour lunch break in Pompeii and stay at the excavation site instead. A big compliment to Luigi who explained everything to us "English laypeople" in a way that was understandable.

Thanks also to Hugo from "Tour Guide Naples" who called us in Naples and discussed everything.
We will come back and visit Pompeii Part 2 and Heraculeum.

We booked the guided tour with GetYourGuide to see Pompeii and climb Vesuvius. Let me start by saying that it is a tour that must be done with a guide because otherwise you go around in circles without knowing what you are looking at (stones and houses).
Let's start from the beginning. The booking was made via the Internet at this well-known tour agency. In the email they write to you that they will contact you the day before to make arrangements for the collection of the day. Which didn't happen, we called the night before and they told us they would send us a text message. But nothing. Early in the morning we call back and they tell us that they can't come and pick us up at the hotel in via Toledo and to come closer to the Turchini hotel, 6 m away on foot. We find ourselves there and wait for the bus for about twenty people. They take us to Pompeii and divide us between different guides based on language. We had the guide Alex, very knowledgeable and nice. His explanations were very interesting, also dispelling myths. If it were only for him I would have given 5 stars. After leaving the Pompeii site they take us to the Suise restaurant just outside for lunch included in the price. The restaurant was not organized at all, they took orders from different tables and then shouted as soon as the dishes were ready who had taken one dish rather than another. They gave you a ticket for the free bathroom to use only once, the subsequent ones to be paid with €1. Terrible and dirty bathrooms. After lunch we took another bus to go to Vesuvius. Tickets included in the price. They left us at the entrance while we thought there was a guided tour there too. Crazy views and a climb that can be done by everyone. Once the visit was over they took us back to the starting point by bus. We were hoping for a better organization but still good.
