The 2nd Tunnel was discovered in an area 13km north of Cheorwon within the DMZ on March 19, 1975.

As arch of rocks, it has 2.1m width, 2m height, 3.5km length and located between 50 and 160m (160 and 520ft) below ground.
About 30,000 armed troops could infiltrate through the tunnel in an hour with vehicles, artillery pieces, and even tanks.

It's Available to explore 500m length of the tunnel for now and accessible to nearest Southern limit line. Possible to watch lush greenery near Guard Posts and General Out Posts of South Korea versus Guard Posts, Naktagoji, and Kim Ilsung goji of North Korea.

The granites, formed in 110 milion years ago, was covered by basalt lava flow and eroded after made asymmetrical natural views of Hantan River
Able to feel dazzling and beauty by walking through 30 and 40m heights cliffside path which surrounded by Columnar jointing,
UNESCO Global Geopark that has length of 3.6km and width 1.5m.

1. Hantangang Jusangjeolli-gil
**March - November It officially has been opened a 3.6-km route on the river, mainly in Cheorwon-gun County, as part of a project for building a columnar joint road on Nov 17 2020. This plank path was built in July 2020 along the cliffs of the valley by installing a ladder-shaped bridge. Cheorwon Hantangang Columnar Joint Path is a walking path made by installing a small bridge between the cliffs and the cliff that hangs high as a ladder. The Hantangang area was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark. With three observatory spots and 13 bridges, the new path offers a much closer view of the cliffs while hiking. ***Hantan River Milky Way Bridge(December - February) The area of Hantangang River is a UNESCO Global Geopark. The Milky Way Bridge was built to follow a natural path and allows visitors to journey comfortably. The name of the bridge takes from the famous Hantangang River and region of Cheorwon and adds eunhasu, or Milky Way, the path made of stars.
2. The 2nd Tunnel
The 2nd Tunnel, which was made by North Koreans to invade South Korea, was discovered on March 24, 1975. This tunnel is 3.5 kilometers long and sits 50~160 meters below the surface. It stretches out 1.1 kilometers and 2.4 kilometers in the south and north directions respectively. Only 500 meters is open for tourism among the whole length. Inside of the tunnel, there is a plaza to gather a large military force. The tunnel is divided into 3 exits. The use of this tunnel would allow for thirty thousand armed forces as well as tanks to pass through per hour. For now, the tunnel is operated as part of Cheorwon Security Tourism Course and many tourists visit this area every year.
3. Cheorwon Peace Observatory
Peace observatory with three stories and a basement, opened in November 2007. The first floor is an exhibition hall and the second floor is an observatory, allowing tourists to observe the ecosystem, fortress of Gung-Ye Castle town, Pyeonggang tableland, and Seonjeon town of North Korea in the DMZ. There's also a miniature model produced by state-of-the-art technology and an ultra-precision telescope system, so that tourists can witness and listen to the reality of national division.
4. Woljeongri Station
Woljeong-ri Station (Iron Triangle Battlefield) is the last stop before reaching the DMZ. With the sign "The iron horse wants to run again," there stand remains of a train that was used to make frequent trips to North Korea. Located at the spot where the fiercest battle was held during the Korean War, this train marks the partition line of the Korean peninsula. These days Woljeong-ri Station is under the control of the Cheorwon-gun Office and hundreds of thousands of people visit this unique tourist area every year.
5. Cheorwon History and Culture Park
Once upon a time in the 1930s, there was a place called Cheorwon in Gangwon Province, South Korea. It was one of the three major cities in Gangwon Province, with over 80,000 people living there. In Cheorwon, there was a modern town with a county office, a police station, a theater, a train station, schools, banks, and more. **Korean Workers' Party Headquarters** This three-story building located in Cheorwon-eup was constructed in 1946. Used as the headquarters of the Labor Party until the break of the Korean War on June 25, it is now a tourist attraction that still holds onto the vestiges of the Korean War.Cheorwon Korean Workers' Party Headquarters is under the control of Cheorwon-gun Office as part of the Security Tour Course. Hundreds of thousands of people visit this tourist destination every year.

This was my second trip to the DMZ but Orota adjusted the content so the info package became even more relevant. She answered all questions easily and was very friendly all the time.

She also took many photos at the right places and sent them to me while traveling back to Seoul. I will recommend her guiding services to anyone!

had a great day exploring the dmz tour area with the help of our friendly & cute guide, Orota! gain plenty of sights about the korea hisotry, the cold war, and many more perspectives that i wouldn't have known. The 2nd tunnel was an interesting seek out to see and learn how such magnificent tunnel could be built back in the older days.

special shoutout to the funny driver that added a touch more of fun to this day trip! (:

We were able to tour the area while our guide, Park Chan, explained the history of Cholon in detail. We were able to get closer to the military demarcation line than we expected and see North Korean territory, so we were very satisfied. Cholon is not only the DMZ, but also a place where many cranes and migratory birds live, so it was nice to be able to see a lot of birds.

When you think of the DMZ, you probably think of the Third Tunnel and Panmunjom, but Cheorwon is also one of the places you should definitely visit. It may not be well known in Japan, but this was also a fierce battlefield during the Korean War, and you can trace its traces on the tour. It was once part of North Korean territory, so it is also attractive to be able to visit historical sites from the time of North Korean rule. Unlike the propaganda village, the North Korean territory and flag visible beyond the military demarcation line spread across a vast area were impressive. The Second Tunnel is said to be easier to walk through than the Third Tunnel, with no slope. The dynamite left by the North Korean army was also vivid.
The tour conductor, Park Chan, carefully explained the history in fluent Japanese, so even without studying beforehand, I was able to learn about and enjoy the history of Cheorwon. Another good memory is that he actively took a lot of photos. I was impressed by the columnar joints of the UNESCO World Heritage Geopark that we visited in the afternoon, and I was able to experience the majestic nature that I cannot experience in Seoul, and I was able to spend a very fulfilling time. There were a lot of tourists and there were some places I wasn't able to go to this time, so I would definitely like to take this tour again.

It was great ! Our guide Orota was very enthusiastic and kind. She kindly answered what I wanna know about the place where I've been with details.
especially what I really like about her was taking photos. she helped me and my friends take photos which was very professional.
Overall, I'm very satisfied and I would love to make my other journey with Orota next time too!

Our guide was Ms. Heidi she was very friendly and very welcoming.
It was the great experience which you will never find in any other places.
I will recommend this tour if anyone is considering especially those who wants to explore dmz more deeply. It is the right tour.
The food was in a very nice restaurant, winner of some Korean cousine award, very delicious food.
The weather was perfect, a lot of snow, but I wanted more snow! xD.
Most recommended!!

To leave at 7 in the morning was very smart because there was no traffic, we reached all places right in time without stress, the driver was also good . We loved that our tour guide informed us with many interests stories about history and other things.
The program with all topics was good because we had a lot of info and additional some nice walks in between and at the afternoon thanks to our guide

Great experience on the tour. I felt the 2nd tunnel is better than the 3rd tunnel. Heidi, guide was very kind and knowledgeable. Also, the river had amazing view. Recommend this tour!
