From the very beginning, the Gallery was conceived as a large boardroom, which was to celebrate the victory of the Christian fleet over the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. The commander of the Papal fleet, Marcantonio II Colonna, is depicted numerous times throughout the vault of the Great Hall of the Gallery and in the Room of the Battle Column.

The Gallery includes works by Lorenzo Monaco, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Palma the Elder, Salviati, Bronzino, Tintoretto, Pietro da Cortona, Annibale Carracci (painting of The Beaneater), Guercino, Francesco Albani, Muziano and Guido Reni. Ceiling frescoes by Filippo Gherardi, Giovanni Coli, Sebastiano Ricci, and Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari celebrate the role of Marcantonio II Colonna in the battle of Lepanto (1571).

The gallery is a must see! We went as soon as it opened and it was magnificent. Each room and each painting had a story to tell. It’s hard to turn away and not see something that catches your eye. If you’re on the weekend, please do book ahead and go see the gallery. The paintings in each canvas and wall were beautiful.

It takes more than one visit to experience the marvel that this palace and its collection of European art is. The collection in private hands is stupendous. The tour which was in excess of two hours was relaxed and informal leaving one time to appreciate everything that one sees .

In a city of brusk state run galleries the relaxed informality of the staff was welcomed.

A mesmerizing place - full of remarkably Neoclassic & Baroque Art ( MASTERPIECES) that will certainly conquer ANY visitor. The environment is safe & peaceful. The gardens actually were one genuine attempt to go back in time, rescuing the glorious days of the Roman Art.
The book shop offers literature’s assertive samples as much as more sophisticated and fully-detailed stuffs. Coffee attendants & food are BEYOND the standards & the most positive expectation. The perfume I have purchased at the book shop ( Colonna’s self trademark - was / is simply AMAZING)
Just one remark -For the True Art -Lover’s point of view: one hour and a half or two hours ARE NOT enough to appreciate & getting hold of most of the uncountable masterpieces’ insights. The manager crew (Weekend) are absolutely fine, beyond any expectation. My especial Manifest of gratitude goes for Maria, from the Weekend Co. without her ? It would not have been possible .. thank you !
