In the company of your own guide, you can explore the city by foot on this unique walking tour. The tour is organized with 3 hours duration.

On this tour we take you on a walk around the small city centre of Tromsø that has been founded in 1795 on the island of Tromsøya and its surrounding. The city has, also called the Gateway to the Arctic, been throughout history the start for several Polar Expedition.

Tromsø has long been an important base for many polar expeditions, and the Polar Museum exhibits and presents this polar seafaring tradition. After the visit at the Polar Museum, we will go to Full Steam where we will visit the exhibitions about the Maritime and Fisheries history as well as Sea Sami culture and history.

The walk continues through the “Storgata” towards the Framsenter (the main building in Tromsø for research in the arctic). We will walk next to Ølhallen, Tromsøs oldest pub which used to be a popular place to stay for fishermen and explorers.

The guide was a nice man and extremely knowledgeable but he needed to condense his commentary as he spent way too much time and went into far too much technical detail in the museums which ended up to be very boring. Through no fault of his, the Full Steam had flooded so we could only access the Sami portion of the exhibit. He spent 1.5 hours explaining the Sami, which was way too much. He needed to figure a way to tell highlights and edit his speech. He also went into great detail on the scientific properties of the Aurora Borealis which, again, making the audience lose interest. The Polar Museum was more of the same. Way too much detail and not enough tidbits of interest to keep the attention of his audience. The time in the museums could have been cut by 2/3 to be much more interesting and effective. We enjoyed walking around the city and the highlights of information provided about the history of the different buildings, churches and monuments. The tour advertises the Full Steam experience which we did not get due to the flooding and also visiting the oldest pub, which we never went to. This was disappointing. Overall, this could have been a good experience if the guide had been able to tone down the depth and breadth and overly technical speeches and by providing a more informative yet fun tour. Not happy that we didn’t get the Full Steam experience or go to the pub, as advertised.

My friend and I had an amazing tour with our guide, Boris, around the local area. We were lucky that we were the only two and so it was a very personal experience. We were taken to see the most important places in Tromso and visited two museums. We learned so much about the history of the city and its famous residents, particularly Roald Admunsen, the explorer. The railway station was quite a surprise too.
Boris explained everything in a clear and friendly manner - the trip just flew by - but we both appreciate Tromso much more now.
We finished the tour by the harbour at the museum at Full Steam, where we then stayed to have a delicious lunch. A great morning out!w

We were late in arriving at the meeting point because of ignorance regarding its proximity to the cruise terminal. However, the tour guide was there waiting for us. We carried on with the tour as if nothing happened. Boris, our tour guide was gracious enough to carry on with the walking tour around Tromso. Interesting town with its history, polar lights, arctic center. We will come back to see the northern lights next time v

The guide was very informative and explained not only historical facts about Tromsø but also answered all of our questions about the lifestyle in the Arctic.

We thought it was going to be a big group, but we were only 4 people. Highly recommended.

Boris was early and we started out tour right on time. He was so knowledgeable and nice! We saw so many things and he went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed the tour. We started right off by seeing a service in their lovely wooden church. Folks were in their native dress and so lovely. He educated us about the Sammi and we saw many artifacts.
