Absolutely fantastic place, whether or not you are a The Third Man fanatic. Incredible history of Vienna before, during and after WW2. But truly amazing collection of artifacts from the movie: it's script, stars, location, production - everything. The most amazing thing is that this is a labor of love - not a commercial enterprise - created by an astonishing couple who are passionate about the film, The Third Man, and the incredible moment in history that it captures. Besides having collected and creating the phenomenal exhibits, the couple - Gerhard and Karin - are the most lovely people. When you come to the museum you will undoubtably meet them and instantly strike up a rapport. To my astonishment, they ended up giving me a gift: a film poster that they took right off their wall!! I will certainly visit them - and the museum - again and again.

This tour, which takes you beneath the streets and buildings of Vienna, is definitely worth doing. The general prejudice that all olfactory senses are offended by a bad smell is not true. Even if it doesn't smell like perfume, it is very easy to bear.
Tip: Don't start this tour wearing flip-flops or sandals; you will walk over wet areas, but you will never be in the water.
It is well worth seeing what is beneath Vienna.

Great museum. Totally surprised by this museum. Visited with my wife and adult son last Saturday and we all loved it. We got to meet the couple who built the museum who were passionate about The Third Man and it’s connection with Vienna. We are museum buffs and have visited museums all over Europe and although small compared to the bigger museums it packs so much memorabilia into the three buildings it is just as enjoyable. Great layout and story telling about the movie. Although not required I’d recommend watching The Third Man before going. I hadn’t watched it in 15 years and was able to rent it online. It really is a great film and this museum does a great job of showcasing it!

I loved everything about this amazing little museum! If you are a fan of The Third Man movie this is a MUST. The amount of items that Gerhard and his wife have curated from the movie is astonishing! Posters, scripts, pictures, letters, memos, etc. They have the actual zither used for the soundtrack! They have set up several vignettes to re-enact certain scenes. Gerhard gave us a private tour and it was just fabulous. Not only is he an expert on every detail of the movie but he is also quite the historian. The museum is also an education on post-war Vienna that we found fascinating. I really cannot say enough about this special museum that is clearly a labor of love for Gerhard and his wife. I am so happy we were able to have this experience and encourage anyone visiting Vienna to go to The Third Man Museum!!

We decided on a private walking tour and visit to this wonderful museum. Gerhard is passionate about “post war Vienna”, he is a wonderful historian and his private museum is full of the most amazing original letters, photos, uniforms, photography & film. Our age group was 19 to 60 and we all enjoyed.
If you can watch the movie or read the book “The Third Man” it will make the tour even more interesting. We have loved Vienna and this was a great end to our week in this beautiful city.
We would recommend this especially if you enjoy something out of the ordinary.

We arranged for a tour of the Third Man Museum as well as a private full day walking tour of Vienna with Gerhard during our free day there, and had a wonderful time that we'll never forget!

The depth and breadth of Gerhard's Third Man movie paraphernalia, as well as his knowledge of the intrigues of postwar Vienna, are truly amazing. Gerhard is friendly, honest and engaging. However he is not afraid to discuss the treatment of Jews during that time, and part of the museum's exhibits deals with that sad topic in a sensitive but clear way.

During our private walking tour Gerhard took us to see the newly renovated Judenplatz Museum, the Hapsburgs' Imperial Crypt, and many other off-the-beaten track sights. Of course we stopped for strudel and coffee at an authentic Viennese coffee house as well.

If you plan to be in Vienna we highly recommend visiting the Third Man Museum and perhaps taking a walking tour of Vienna with Gerhard. A unique and rewarding experience.

Gerhard is passionate about what he believes in. I could tell he put so much into this museum and his enthusiasm shows. Could not help but support his cause.

Great fun. Guide was full bilingual (I guessed Australian- no Austrian!)
Excellent n atmospheric section on the film and excellent section on most post war Vienna, some wartime Vienna.
Clip from the film was hard to hear (poor audio) but again atmospheric old timey feel.
I’ve seen n appreciated the movie. I give the museum 5 stars. My wife doesn’t recall seeing the movie but still gives museum 4 stars.

The museum captures the excellence of a film that I originally saw as a child and have enjoyed many times over 70 years. The rooms cleverly surrounds the visitor with the Vienna associated with the film. We visited as part of a particularly special birthday holiday in Vienna. Very recommended.

What a special and interesting experience. Not only about the movie, which I recommend to see before (but it's not required), but about Vienna in the 20th Century, from before WW2 to some decades later. True documental evidence and memorabilia about those years, and knowledge I found unique and memorable.

I have been to many museums in Vienna, and seeing The Third Man Museum, in hindsight, made a more indelible memory, because more than a run of the mill museum for my collection of tourist visits in all the great cities, this feels like a labor of love and becomes so unique, and memorable. It is not large in extension but it is all very condensed, so be prepared to take your time, move slowly, and taste all the different nuances that you are being shown... while this lasts, because I don't know how they can make it sustainable with this price...
