I had the chance to discover this exceptional active volcano over half a day as part of a guided tour.
After a magnificent climb which allows us to see the evolution of the vegetation, we discovered the inactive craters of Silvetri at an altitude of 1900 meters which date from the eruption of 1892 and which show that the vegetation always ends up taking over.
If the weather permits, the view is obviously exceptional towards Catania and the summit of Etna with magnificent photos to boot.
You can also discover another crater after a short climb (walking shoes essential) and take the cable car which goes up to the summit of Etna (not done due to lack of time).
You can finally eat at this level and buy gifts (paid parking).

…during the first week of October!!…we had various trekking experiences on Etna!!…on the southern side…in the Nicolosi area!!…we left the car in the square and set off along our path that leads up to Montagnola and the slopes of the crater of the 2001 eruption!!…we went up to the Silvestri craters!!…upper and lower!!…incredible views!!…a spectacle that deserves to be admired, even that of the Valle del Bove!! …in some areas we have travelled!!…there is a particular vegetation!!…partly natural and partly reforested!!…these treks on Etna…for me they were truly a unique and fantastic experience!!…from definitely do it again!!…

6 hours spent well. The guide is friendly and very knowledgeable, adding to his deep knowledge of the place the friendliness and friendliness of the people of this wonderful Sicily. There's a bit of walking, not difficult but the first few meters take your breath away and then it's all beautiful. The guide (I don't remember his name, dammit) professionally showed us the types of craters, the vegetation, the development of the various eruptions. It's not just a trip, it's an applied science lesson, you come away enriched.

Last August 14th my family and I were accompanied to Etna. It was a really pleasant and interesting experience. Our 7 and 11 year old daughters loved it. The visit was tailor-made for us by the expert hand of Maria Grazia, our guide, who was very attentive and prepared. Together we agreed on the meeting place since we were with the camper. We met at the Citelli Refuge and from there we went with her to see the side craters. During the journey he illustrated and explained to us the presence of some species of vegetation that grow on Etna. We went to see the craters up close and it was exciting to understand so many curiosities. Taking great care to respect the rhythms of our girls, we were then accompanied to visit the lava flow caves. Maria Grazia gave us each a helmet complete with a light to go down into the Snow Cave, telling us a unique and fascinating story. It was a truly splendid day and his professionalism and sensitivity impressed us greatly. We hope to return to the area soon because we were unable to see Catania and perhaps we will ask for your help again to discover the city. If you want to discover Etna with your family from expert staff we highly recommend this experience.

On 11 August 2023 I had the opportunity to walk along the paths of Alcantara and admire the beauty of its gorges, accompanied by an exceptional guide: Maria Grazia. With his kind and caring ways he was able to involve my two children in a fascinating journey rich in history, culture and nature. I hope to return next year to go, with the expert guidance of Maria Grazia, to discover the wonders of this splendid island: Sicily.

Mario was a great guide, we learned so much about Etna, it's history, the geology, as well as the history of the Sicilian people.
He was so passionate and generous with his time and made sure we understood everything.
I would reccommend this to anyone who wants a leisurely but educational morning tour along the slopes of Etna.
Thank you so much for everything!!!

Our guide,Maria-Gracia, gave as a lots of interesting information about "The Lady". That's how Etna is called by the locals. The best was, that we had her full attention, cause there weren't 1000 other tourists, as seen later on the tour. That's the biggest plus on this tour, the guide is booked only for you and we can highly recommend it. Mary knows everything about the Lady and can answer every question! Great day because she made it perfect!
ps: don't forget the suncream, you can get a sunburn out there very quickly. 😉

In that day the weather was the worst during my stay in Sicily, but my busy schedule did not allowed other variants for the trip to Etna. Two guides organized my trip to volcano – Ambra and Daniele. It was fantastic tour! Not only because of the fact that I am a novice and saw mauntains mostly in books and TV, being inhabitant of plains. Deep knowledge of my guides of local geography, history and volcanology made our trip an impression for the rest of my life! It is not a figure of speech! It was also a short introduction to Italy, for I travelled there for the first time. Fog, cold and hail prevented us from going higher, but, I believe, it was only the first step! Thank you, Ambra and Daniele! I hope to make the second step...
