It is one of the most colorful and pleasant towns in Mexico. Its harmonious colonial architecture preserved without urban alterations and its peaceful atmosphere have made it one of the most important destinations in Mexico.

In 2008 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO thanks to its historic center, colonial, baroque and neo-Gothic architecture, which we can admire in its cobbled streets and viceroyalty-style mansions.

Jose picked us up from the hotel. He was very punctual and friendly. The tour included the park in Coyoacan, the Parroquia San Juan Bautista, the Frida Kahlo museum and the Xochomilco. The guided portion of the tour ended in Coyoacan. I wish the Casa Azul and the Xochomilco were also guided (especially the latter, as I had to continue the tour on my phone). Also, would have loved more time for a sit down lunch.

Our tour began with a stroll around the Coyoacan district visiting the coyote fountain, historic church and Sunday art market. We then visited the Frida Kahlo Casa Azul Museum filled with her artwork and belongings. We learned about her extraordinary life and how she has influenced Mexican culture today. Our final stop was the unique Xochimilco canals where our guide Jose treated us to an unscheduled drive through the plant market and we then boarded our own private boat for a ride through the canals, listening to floating Mariachi bands and seeing locals celebrating on the other boats.

Louis was a fantastic guide. He was knowledgeable and friendly. He let us take our own pace and we never felt rushed. I will take friends on this tour when we come back.

My boyfriend and I booked a private tour, and we had so much fun with our guide, Monserrat! She came early and waited for us to finish our breakfast. Then, before we really got started, she stopped at the pharmacy for me to get some cold medicine. She spoke very good English and explained all of the sites we passed on the way to Frida. Our first stop (that was not on the itinerary) was a gimmicky store, but they gave us shots of tequila and I actually bought a hand painted hat that I love, next we went to Frida. There was a parking spot waiting for us RIGHT IN FRONT and we walked right in, while the line was wrapped around the block. Then we walked around Coyoacan and tried crickets, walked through the markets, had some tacos, churros and amazing coffee, and saw all the sites. Then we went to the boats, which was SO FUN!! We had our own private boat with Monse and the boat driver, and people kept jumping on to serve us beer, tequila drinks, tacos, flower crowns... and even an 8 piece mariachi band jumped on to sing to us! Of course everything cost money, but it was all so cheap, and worth it. The most fun first day in Mexico City, highly recommend!! **note, be careful of the atm machines! We went to one and it ATE my card when I made a typo typing my password!
