At Chacchoben mayan ruins you’ll be leaded by a professional local guide. We will walk in the jungle to explore and learn about the different structures of the mayan site such as: Temple 24, Plaza B, Gran Plaza, Gran Basamento, Los Gemelos, Las Vasijas and Templo Uno.

This excursion also offers the possibility to learn about local plants and observe some species of local fauna, including birds and spider monkeys.

At Bacalar lagoon the first place to visit is “Cenote Esmeralda”, where you’ll be amazed by the different shades of blue and understand why the Bacalar Lagoon is frequently referred as the 7 colors lagoon.

The next point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon.

The final spot to explore is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood.

Our guide Leo and driver Chucky were amazing!! Leo was extremely knowledgeable regarding the agriculture, archeology and history of the area, but lively and fun! They were very conscious of the time, making sure we had plenty of time at each location and still delivered us back to the port with time to shop. We definitely got our money's worth. They were stocked with lots of water, soda, beer, tequila and snacks. Lunch was delicious. If you do this excursion, get the pork tacos, you will not regret it! They were amazing!

This was our first time using TripAdvisor for a cruise port excursion and we had an amazing time. Our tour guide and driver were excellent. Our favorite part was the trip to the lagoon. Jumping off the boat and swimming in chest high crystal clear water was awesome. The ruins were fascinating, but the swarm of mosquitoes almost made it unbearable. Our tour guide was great at keeping us moving and staying away from the swarms but I highly recommend bringing mosquito repellent. Overall, we were very pleased with this excursion, and the price was significantly lower than the ship price for a similar experience.

I went with my mom and her best friend and I cannot recommend this excursion enough!!! BOOK IT NOW! It is by far the most memorable excursion I have ever booked and we all loved it! As soon as we got there we were greeted by our guide Leo who is the best guide in the world. He was so friendly and personable, and he also was very informative about the Bacalar lagoon and the Chacchoben Ruins. Eric, our driver was awesome too and made sure we got to each destination quickly, so we would have as much time as possible. Our first stop was the lagoon and it was truly breathtaking. I have never seen such clear and beautiful water in my life and on top of that it was freshwater! While we only spent an hour and a half swimming there, I didn’t want to leave and we could’ve spent all day in there. It was that magical. After that we had our lunch that was included in the excursion and it too surpassed my expectations. Me and mom both got fajitas and her friend got the tacos. Everything was so delicious, probably the best meal I had on my vacation, and it was also cool because it is authentic which I had never gotten to experience as this was our first time in Mexico. Once we were done with lunch, we headed to the ruins. Leo once again was amazing! He took us on a little private tour and told us lots of interesting information regarding the ruins and the Mayans. We even got to climb one of the temples that is currently being excavated. Also, we had a little surprise of doing tequila shots at 9 in the morning with Leo! Which of course was so fun! All in all, the whole day was amazing and unforgettable and we are so glad we booked it!

Juan Corona was our tour guide and he was absolutely awesome!! He was there to greet us and walked us to the bus which was very clean, comfortable, and cool. We went to Mayan ruins first where Juan gave us so much information, it was incredible to be there. Then we went for a boat ride on Bacalar which was so amazing! They made sure to keep us on time and we got plenty of time at the ruins and at Bacalar! Afterwards we had lunch and it was so good!! The ice cream is extra but I recommend it too!
It was such a great day and I highly recommend this excursion!! Ask for Juan!

So glad we did this tour! Leo, our guide, was amazing. He was very personable and incredibly knowledgeable on the history of the area and local favorites. We booked mainly to see the ruins but are so glad we added the Bacalar stop as well! The lagoon was amazing and by far our favorite place for our entire cruise! The water is so fresh and clear. Truly a paradise. Chacchoben was very interesting and beautiful, as well. I don’t recommend going in the afternoon in June because it is very hot! But Leo got us there when there weren’t crowds and we were very grateful for that.

We booked through Viator outside our cruise company which made me very nervous. However, Leo was so cognizant of the time and made all of our worries go away. We would 100% recommend this trip!

Tino, our driver was very professional and courteous. He met us at the cruise port and drove my family to the ruins, where we received a fantastic personal tour from Juan Corona (ahead of the cruise ship crowds). Tino stopped on the way back at roadside stands and treated us to pineapple, mango, and salsa. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide and driver were great. Our guide, I think Luis but I am horrible with names, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We drove to Bacalar Lagoon first and I can not even describe how beautiful the water was. The water was clear and the sand below felt great. We then went to lunch and had the pork, fish and carne asada tacos and they were great. After lunch we drove to Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. I was thankful we were only there about 45 minutes. I had friends that were at the ruins on excursions booked through the cruise line for two hours and that is far too long. There were only 2 sites to see so I felt the time we were there was the perfect amount of time. We have been to Chichén Itzá so this site was a let down compared to that but you may have a different opinion if this is your first Mayan ruin visit. The van we took had excellent A/C and as I stated earlier, our guide was amazing. Would highly recommend this tour company.

Absolutely loved this excursion with Leo (tour guide) and Julio (driver). I received a call the day before to confirm details and confirm ship time arrival and departure. They also confirmed and stayed in line with the time we specified for arriving back to the port. Leo was very knowledgeable and we talked a lot about Mayan and Mexican culture. The water at Bacalar was so beautiful. It is a must see. As someone who gets seasick, the pontoon boat and the water was calm. The drive wasn't bad at all. I suggest Bacalar then tacos then the ruins ( in that order to avoid crowds). By the time we arrived at the ruins, we were the only ones there so there was no need to rush. We enjoyed more info and history from Leo then headed back to the dock. The meetup spot was easy to find. We just walked out and there was a sign with our name. This tour is a must! Thanks Leo and Julio!
