The first Edecán is an official tourist guide specialized in military history by the UCM, providing the visit with highly specialized knowledge about the Napoleonic period. In fact, it is a guide to battlefields, with Madrid being another battlefield in the so-called War of Independence.

Raúl is an incredible Spanish War of Independence/Peninsular War guide and historian. We scheduled a day trip from Madrid to Talavera, including pickup from our Madrid hotel, a tour of the Talavera battlefield, lunch in the town of Talavera de la Reina, and a short tour with a local archeologist focused on the city's walls and various waves of construction over the years. It was a perfect day. We were able to take advantage of Raúl's depth of knowledge on the drive to Talavera and while visiting several sites as we traced the path of the Spanish/British and French forces leading up to the battle. He answered many questions about the political climate in Spain leading up to the war and was able to provide so much important context that we definitely would not have gathered had we just visited Talavera ourselves. In fact, it would have been difficult to even find most of the sites interest were it not for his knowledge of the area and it's history. I'm so glad we booked this tour and look forward to a future trip where we can book another tour with Raúl.
