A great morning in Phuket. It was heavily raining but we felt this added to the experience. We were provided with ponchos when we reached the destination and off we went.

Everything was quick and there was no time wasted. We had a great time driving through the jungle. I hadn't realised that we would drive the quads all the way to the Buddha but we turned a corner, and there it was. It was so amazing to see.

The rain and mist cleared just in time for us to enjoy the Buddha and get some pics before it rained heavier than ever on the way back but it was an amazing experience in the rain and a great option for a rainy day if you happen to get one.

The only thing I didn't enjoy and would have swayed my decision on booking this trip was driving past 2-3 elephants (mum and babies) chained up in the woodland area. The company also offer elephant trips which I hadn't realised when booking. I am really against this and, had I known, would not have given this company my money and used another option.

We had such a good time but if this is your first time doing ATV I would suggest just 30 minutes as the tracks are quite dangerous in some areas. We saw a girl fall off twice and we almost did ourselves but we’ve done this a few times now. From the moment we arrived it was go go go! Didn’t even have time for the bathroom. I would suggest they give more training than just the breaks and go for everyone. Also please don’t wear clothes you like or any white clothing you get covered in dust. Overall we really did enjoy ourselves just rushed.

We booked this from our ship in the 2 days preceding it, liaising with Carl Simpson of Qbic via e-mail. Carl is from Leeds, West Yorkshire in the UK but don’t hold that against him (sorry, Carl - I couldn’t resist). Although we never met and only spoke on the phone once, he was very friendly and informative and helpful. Making arrangements and payment through the Qbic website was easy.
We were in a panic when we were delayed in getting off our ship in time for our 8.45am meet with the ATV company truck (we were travelling by tender). I kept in e-mail contact with Carl, who simply arranged a taxi to meet us at the nominated hotel on the seafront. That cost 500 baht (about £10.70 sterling) for a journey of about 20-30 minutes. Very good value. I spoke to Carl on the phone and he confirmed the details for the pick-up.
The ATV company has its location up in the hills. Our air-conditioned driver took us directly there where we were met by the team. We paid for the last-minute addition to our party and were then fitted with helmets. Complimentary water in little plastics sealed cups is provided with bottles and soda cans available at a small charge. The rules are displayed in various languages and are easy to read. There are also other activities available, such as zip wire, but we opted for the 2 hour quad bike ride through the jungle up to the Big Buddha and back.
I will not go into detail. Why spoil the surprise? Suffice it to say that we went out of our comfort zones. Well, at least us two oldies did. I think the 2 teenagers were in their element. It is safe and secure with 2 guides keeping an eye on you and your safety. The bikes are not new - mine slipped its gear a number of times but it was easily fixed. Off-road tracks can be a bit hairy particularly on the return leg. The Big Buddha is an amazing location to visit with amazing views and an awe-inspiring building which is still ongoing. There is a need for ladies to cover their legs, but that will be provided on site; make a small donation. There are snacks and drinks and ice creams for sale, as well as numerous items to raise funds for the building.
And Carl was right, our daughter loved it for her 16th birthday present! Thanks Carl.
