Auschwitz – Birkenau Museum
Established in 1940 by Nazi Germany, in abandoned Polish army barracks, Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp and extermination center. Out of the 1.3 million people which the SS and police deported, there were over 1.1 million men, women and children who lost their lives in this horrifying place.
The Memorial is made up of two parts of the former camp: Auschwitz and Birkenau.
Wieliczka Salt Mine
About 10 miles (16 km) out of the city, but still within the Krakow metropolitan area, lies the city of Wieliczka, home to the renowned Salt Mine, considered to be the epitome of technological progress made by humans. During the 16th century, royal guests began visiting the mine lured by the developing culture and health benefits. Over the years, miners transformed the mine from a typical dark cave into a majestic location.

The driver Kamile was fab and he was organised and made the whole day brilliant. I booked the tickets over the phone with Viatir and was told it would be just my group in the guide and asked specifically a couple of times and she said yes. This is not what the case was so not to sure what I was paying for as could have got kamile privately.

Kamil was amazing! His car is very confortable and he made sure that we would feel warm (was a cold and snowy day) after and between the visits. He is very passionated about his job and will be happy to share with you many facts & figures about Poland. Highly recommend Kamil.

Kamil was so much more than just a tour guide to our small group of 3, he assisted on building our 2 day itinerary and this is one of the tours he suggested. He arranged our schedule based on our interests and the weather. He was personable and it was evident that he does tours because he loves it. Kamil treats you like a friend not a client and makes sure everything is taken care of for you. He ensured we got in smoothly before going back to the van for every tour and made sure we understood any important information prior to entering. He also was available in case the tour was too difficult and you wanted to leave early. This is truly the best tour experience I have ever had when traveling.

On a recent visit to Kraków I decided to go on a solo trip to Auschwitz/ Birkenau plus the salt mine tour. Kamil the owner picked me up promptly. Was worth every penny. Not only was I educated about the camps but learnt a great deal more about the city in general, its history people etc. Kamil went the extra mile in pointing out some of the other sites which are overlooked by most . Read and watch all you can about Auschwitz but nothing prepares you for reality. ----- Kamil runs a great operation and is very accommodating and ever willing to help. After talking to him realized there is a lot more to do in Poland a undiscovered gem.
