Discover Etna and the Alcantara Gorges! The perfect mix of adventure and refreshing relax!
The excursion begins by SUV or minivan (up to 8 people), together with our experienced guides.
Our first stop is an off-road trip to the 2002 eruption lava fron.
Continuing along the Via Mareneve, in the middle of the Ragabo pine forest, we will arrive at the starting point of our trekking to the Monti Sartorius craters. We will continue on foot, starting at 1650 metres and arriving at an altitude of 1750 metres, an easy walk suitable for everyone.
We will then explore a lava flow cave, the Grotta dei Ladroni, equipped with helmets and torches.
We will stop at a local chalet or restaurant for lunch (included in the price: a first course, drink and coffee).
After lunch, we will reach the characteristic Alcantara Gorges, also known as the Larderia Gorges. A refreshing and relaxing visit to a wonderful place. You can cool off in the Alcantara river in the middle of the canyon of the Gorges!

A wonderful trip, loved every minute. Meeting in the morning was easy. Giovanni our guide was so knowledgeable, his geology knowledge was fantastic, I like to learn on a trip like this and we certainly did. Nothing was rushed, all done at a great leisurely pace, not like some trips I've taken in the past. I would thoroughly recommend this trip, you will not be disappointed. Sad it had to end. Thank you Giovanni.

Excellent in every way. Emanuelle, our excellent driver was also a fabulous guide, very knowledgeable and informative. He used the required languages with ease and gave information in each language. He’s a credit to the company. An eight hour day, morning at Etna, afternoon at Alcantara , which flew by, because of the quality of Emanuelle’s information and interesting conversation.

Amazing, well worth a visit to 3000 Etna plus the Gorges amazing. Take swimming wear to the Gorges as good to walk through.

The tour and visited sites were quite good, but organisation was poor. There were 4 vehicles in our tour, therefore there was more of waiting for other trip mates, loading, unloading etc, than the actual time visiting the sigts. Also, the return to the meeting point was very badly organised as two of the vans heading to Catania had to wait 45 minutes in the hot van while other van driver returns (from droping off the people at their pickup location) to take 4 passengers from other two vans back to the meeting point. So our tour lasted 9 hours (from meeting point in Linguaglossa and back). Also, some guides were good, others not so much, so your experience depends pretty much on how lucky you are with the guide.

We chose the Etna/Alcantara trip as it seemed to offer good value for money. There was an initial mix-up with our transport from Catania but this was resolved within the hour. It was awesome to visit this active volcano which was smoking heavily on the day of our trip. You do need to be fairly fit, and be aware that some of the crater edges can be steep and slippery. Lunch was two types of pasta with bottled water. You have to pay extra for additional drinks and/or dessert. The Alcantara Gorges were pretty but very busy. Be prepared to walk over 200 steps each way (or get the lift at a cost of €5 per person). Our guides were very friendly and helpful.

After our original Etna trip was cancelled with another company we booked with Dream Island very last minute, and how glad we now are that we did! Richard from Dream Island was fantastic! He communicated with us via WhatsApp and made arrangements for my friend and I to be picked up from our hotel as we had no means to travel to Catania. He was speedy with his responses and made every effort to make the trip happen as it was our last day in Sicily. We were picked up by our guide Salvatore who was incredibly helpful, informative, answered all our questions and so kind. He took my friend and I on a route that he doesn't usually take so that we were able to see 2 of the bigger craters at 2100m. The hike awarded us with magnificent views of the mountain and the craters were unbelievable! I would absolutely recommend Dream Island. Big thanks to Richard and Salvatore for making our trip to Siciliy amazing and making Etna happen for us when we had been let down by another company last minute on our last day.

The best Sicily trip we have booked, many thanks to Salvatore!
Salvatore was our tour guide. He is a true Sicilian, so he was able to tell us childhood stories about Mount Etna and the whole of Sicily.
The time while driving around by car was used to explain passed and prepare the next stops. the lunch was easy but very delicious meal. we, in a group of 4 (me, my girlfriend and 2 further tourists from england) enjoyed the whole trip, lastly due to our brilliant guide!
