This is a private tour with a 7-seater van for a maximum 6 guests.
Elafonisi island and its beach are located in the southwestern tip of Crete, about 2 hours drive from Chania. It is regarded one of the best beaches in the world. This island is connected with Crete with a narrow and shallow strip of sand, forming with its long peninsula, exotic beaches with white sand and turquoise water. A shallow lagoon is formed, and you can walk to Elafonisi island and explore its beaches.
The road to get there goes through breathtaking Topolia Gorge, picturesque villages and the fascinating varied landscapes. The aim of this tour is not only to visit a beach, but the trip to get there is an experience itself.
We will park 1/4 of mile (1/2km) away and have to hike on a dirt path to the beach.
On the way back we will make a stop for lunch.
Optional visit to a Winery, Olive Oil Factory for Tasting Tour or Monastery upon request.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Elafonissi Beach
The road ends 1km (0,6 miles) before the beach. You will have to walk on a dirt track for 15 minutes down and 20 up the road. It will be harder to visit Elafonisi beach for children, persons with health problems or walking difficulties. Elafonisi is located in the southwestern most tip of Crete. It is an oblong peninsula, which often breaks in two parts by water giving the impression of being a separate island. Exotic beaches with white sand and turquoise water, are formed on either sides of the peninsula. The sand is pinkish in many places, taking its color from millions of crushed shells. Near the breaking point of the peninsula, the sea creates a small lagoon which you can cross the lagoon in order to reach the island. The island is a mile long, ending in a rocky outcrop. Elafonisi is a Natura 2000 protected area home to more than 100 rare plants and a great shelter for rare loggerhead sea turtles.
2. Topolia Gorge
We will drive through Topolia Gorge, its a scenic drive and stop to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Hawks and goats can be spoted above and by the side of the gorge. Will try local honey, olive oil and other delicacies. On the way back we will stop at a traditional artist who carves olive wood.
3. Chrisoskalitissa Monastery
The monastery of Chrisoskalitissa is located a few kilometers before Elafonissi. It reminds of a fortress, perched on a 35m high rock with nice views. The name of the monastery means Our Lady Gold-stepped in Greek. This is taken after one step out of 98, which, according to tradition, was gold. It is said that only the faithful can see it. The temple has two aisles dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity. The exact date of the establishment of the monastery is unknown.
4. Elos
Eat lunch and visit a 14-century Byzantine church

We did not take the trip because the vendor wanted an extra 1000 euros after our party of 12 had confirmed the price, with a Viator agent on the phone, of 848 euros and paid the fee. This issue was reported to Viator and American Express.

Took this tour in Crete lead by George. It was my husband and I with our two kids and niece. I have to start off by saying that George was an amazing tour guide and the best we’ve ever had. He explained the history of Greece and made sure we had plenty of time at each stop. He also took us to a local restaurant that was incredible. Please do not hesitate to book this tour you will not regret it! George we hope to see you again someday!

Sofia was our guide - she was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. We stopped at cool spots along the way to the beach that we would have never known about! Elafonisi was beautiful and we took so many photos. Sofia also recommended an incredible lunch spot that was family run - it was the best meal on our trip! We had an amazing time and would do it again!!

My husband and I had a fantastic time on this tour! Sofia and Peter were lovely and took great care of us the entire way there. We learned so much about Crete during our drive to the beach, and they kept things interesting and fun. We stopped to view Topolia gorge and there were opportunities to visit an olive oil factory and other sites. As for the beach, it was PERFECT! We fully recommend this family run business and will use them again in the future!

Excellent tour! Peter, George and Sofia are excited to show you around and will arrange a tour to exactly match whatever you are interested in. In 2 days with them, we were able to tour an olive oil factory, do a wine tasting, hike Imbros Gorge and walk along Elefonisi beach, with various stops along the way. Everything was comfortable and well organized. Many thanks to our excellent guide Sofia for never rushing us but somehow getting us to our bookings right on time! The best way to see the sights around Chania - don't even consider driving yourself! So happy we found this tour company!

Geroge was awesome! He picked us up on time and ensured that our experience was special. Elafonissi Beach was our end goal but got so much more! George was very excited to show and tell us about his beloved Crete. We made appropriate stops giving us opportunities to see villages, as well as great shopping opportunities. The beach was as expected, amazing! On the way back he had a few options for a stop for food, we chose the Goat! It was so special. I would recommend Niriis Tours to anyone!

George was a fabulous tour guide! He communicated with me from the moment I booked the tour right up to the week of to make sure we had the best experience. He suggested we leave the hotel early to beat the crowds and he was absolutely correct in that decision. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch on the way home with George and loved getting to know him!

We had a great time heading to Elafonisi. George was an excellent tour guide. Follow his advice and get there early - we were glad we did. We got there and got four chairs and umbrellas, and then, not even 15 minutes later, they were all taken up. It was terrific advice. The walk there is not that bad. I recommend following his advice and checking out the lunch place he recommends. The orange juice is not to be missed. We had a great time, though, and would highly recommend this experience.

This was one of the best tours we had in Greece! The knowledge of our guide was incredible! The weather ended up being overcast but our guide more than made up for the weather with his knowledge of Crete and Greece overall; highly recommend!
