Baja California Sur has an incredible variety of Wildlife and the Mobula Ray migration is surely an impressive event you will want to witness. Thousands of rays traveling in the same direction in search for food and and eventually a quiet spot to mate. Courtship behavior is also common. These relative small animals, they can grow up to 6-7 feet wingspan are famous for their ability to breach out of the water as they are capable of reaching heights of 6 to 8 feet! They travel in very large numbers and are our region only in very specific times of the year (May-July). A great snorkeling opportunity for people looking for adventure!

A friendly and informative snorkelling trip with Cabo Trek to see mobula rays. We did the morning trip and managed to snorkel amongst a number of groups of rays on the Pacific side of Cabo, before we moved to the area around Pelican Rock to snorkel amogst the wealth of fish species that call it home. Guide Silvia was engaging, cheerful, and knowledgeable, while skipper Freddie kept an eye out for the rays and got us where we needed to be swiftly and safety. A super few hours swimming with the rays and fishes. Drinks and snacks were provided too, which was a nice bonus.
We choose Cabo Trek partly because of the small group sizes they take out - as it turned out there were just three of us our trip, so it was almost a private tour! We fully recommend Cabo Trek for snorkelling experiences around Cabo! :)

My original tour was canceled and Bea was so sweet and worked with me to get me on this one instead. What an amazing experience! I’m sorry if I get the names wrong, but Isabella and Freddy (I hope that is correct) were so kind and professional. They made sure we were safe at all times. We started the morning on a mini educational tour, then took photos by the arch. Soon after.. we went searching. The water was so clear spotting the rays was easy. Watching them swim in the water and gather at the bottom was so peaceful. The captain even spotted a turtle! Soon after we headed to pelican rock to snorkel. It was like being dropped in an aquarium. Our tour guide explained what we would see as well as a little about each fish. The only negative were all the bootleg tours who there. As well as the ignorant snorkelers who were climbing the rock, disturbing the baby seal.

It was a beautiful day! Educational and peaceful. Perfect for my fellow marine animal lovers, adventurers, solos, and couples. I look forward to using them again!

Please be aware you will be in deep water and the waves can be pretty moody. Life jackets are provided.

Mobula Ray snorkeling tour with Vanuza and Freddie was amazing! We snorkeled with hundreds of mobulas and saw so many flying/jumping mobulas from the boat! We even witnessed mating tortugas! Our little group of guests were fun too! It was a great experience!

Vanuza is a very passionate marine biologist! She described the biology and behavior Mobula rays in great detail. Fredy did an amazing job steering the boat directly into the school of Mobula rays. It took us only about 10 min before we saw the first Mobula aggregation (probably over thousand of them) and we had multiple opportunities to swim with the rays. Vanuza would always jump first into the water to check the situation and was constantly giving us signs and directing as to the Mobulas that were swimming close to the surface. The timing was perfect! Compared to other tours that I have booked in different parts of the world this was my favorite and I highly recommend it!Thanks Vanuza and Fredy for the great time!!!

Vanuza and Fredy took us on what turned out to be a once in a lifetime adventure. Though we initially went out to see Moruba Rays, we ended up being involved in facilitating help for an entangled gray whale. We were so impressed at their knowledge and respect for all the wildlife we saw, the snorkeling was amazing and they did a wonderful job at making us feel welcome. I would highly recommend and would love to come back for more adventures! Thank you again Vanuza and Fredy!

I did the mobula ray trip with Cabo Trek on the morning of May 29. I booked the trip the day before - Karla at the front desk was very courteous, friendly and helpful. We went out on their Aurora boat with Freddie as the captain and Silvia Richardson as the guide. We were very fortunate in that Freddie's and Silvia's sharp eyes spotted a leaping mobula in the bay not far from the marina and directly in front of Medano Beach, not more than 15 minutes after we left the dock. Beneath that leaping mobula was the first of what must have been multiple separate schools of a few hundred each that we were to encounter that day. At this time of the year, the water visibility is not at its best, so it is only possible to see a fraction of the school - the rest of the school is clouded beyond visiblity range. So it is difficult to gage exact numbers. Both Freddie and Silvia excelled in their roles, with Freddie finding 2-3 more schools of mobulas to get into the water with. Each swimming encounter lasted 10-20 minutes. Silvia was knowledgeable, energetic and enthusiastic as a guide - her good attitude and good vibes rubbed off on us. She was also very attentive to the snorkelers without being obstrusive or restrictive. In nearly 40 years that I have been diving and snorkeling, those tend to be the best qualities I see in a guide. I can wholeheartedly recommend them and would not hesitate to go out with them again. It is worth noting for those considering in-water excursions with wild animals like these that Nature is unpredictable - it is not an aquarium. To improve my chances, I always book multiple days, altho in this case, it was even better to be lucky.

I just want to preface this review by saying that no, I did not see any mobula rays during the excursion. However, other members of my party who had gone earlier that day were more fortunate. It's really just the luck of the draw in the end. As my guide Silvia said, there are no guarantees in nature.

So why am I giving this tour five stars? Two reasons:
1) The lengths that the boat captain and tour guide went through to seek out mobula rays. Hard work must not go unappreciated.
2) As you'll see in the images I've attached, I did end up seeing something even better (in my opinion), thanks only to the aforementioned efforts of the crew. Never in my life did I ever expect to ride so closely alongside a pod of wild dolphins.

Despite not seeing any rays, we still took plenty of opportunities to snorkel and bare witness to gorgeous marine life, including not only dolphins, but also sea lions and a myriad of tropical fish going about their daily business.

Silvia was an excellent tour guide. She was quite knowledgeable in marine life and accommodated our needs, but most of all, she was extremely kind and friendly. If I were to do this tour all over again, I'd still love for her to be my guide.

Overall, a great experience. Just be wary that the trip may not go exactly as expected.

We didn't see any mobula rays, but we saw at least 20-30 dolphins swimming around our boat. Our tour guide and captain tried very hard searching for mobula rays but we ended up only saw sharks, turtles, dolphins, and sea lions.
