We have been running personalised tours to Jerez with great success since 2002 for people who love food and wine. We take you to visit two great wineries where you will get the chance to taste a wide range of fine sherries and as well as vermouth, sherry vinegar and some excellent brandies. In the first winery we'll take you around cathderal-like buildings and explain the unique sherry-making process tasting different styles of sherry as we walk around. You'll also taste some vermouth and sherry vinegar. At the second boutique winery you'll get to taste some more great sherry wines and some of the best brandy in Spain straight from the cask! With this newly acquired knowledge of sherry we then head off to a great local restaurant for lunch and more wine! There'll be time for a stroll around the old quarter of Jerez before heading back to Seville. We are sure you will agree with most of the world's top wine critics who say that sherry is the most underrated fine wine in the world.

We had a most enjoyable day with Roger, who took us to two interesting bodegas in Jerez. Roger is very personable and is able to impart his wide knowledge of the process of Sherry making in a clear and concise way. It was a pleasure to spend the day with him, to taste some wonderful sherries, to learn so much and to enjoy a delicious lunch. I would highly recommend his tour to anyone who is interested in tasting and learning about Sherry.

Roger picked us up near our Airbnb in Seville and drove us to Jerez to visit two sherry bodegas.

The first stop was at one of the large well known sherry houses. Roger used the barrels in the warehouses to detail the sherry making process (solera). And, a unique well lit barrel with glass ends enabled a perfect view of the 'Flor' mold layer.

Our second stop was at a smaller bodega where could not only taste from bottles, but also from the barrels. This provided a unique opportunity to directly experience the magic maturation of sherry. We were also afforded time with the owner of the bodega, and the discussions provided great insight into the business of sherry.

We concluded the tour with a superb lunch in the Jerez old town.

Roger is a superb tour guide with vast knowledge of sherry and Spanish history.

We really enjoyed this tour with Roger. He is very personable and knowledgeable about the wines (sherry) of the region. We learned so much and tasted great wines. It was interesting to walk around the cellars and taste the different varieties of wine in each room. We purchased a delicious bottle of vermouth at the second winery and can't wait to open the bottle. We also had a delicious meal in a small restaurant in Jerez that we still talk about (they have a cold potato salad that we never found on the menu elsewhere), which was followed by a short walking tour of Jerez. Because we decided that we also wanted to visit Cadiz, we asked Roger to take us to the train station and he happily obliged.

I would highly recommend Roger and this tour, especially if you are interested in learning about sherry and vermouth.

Day trip to Jerez de la Frontera or simply Jerez, city and municipality in the province of Cádiz in the community of Andalusia, in southwestern Spain, located midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cádiz Mountains.
Known for its picturesue landscape and more famously the centre of the universe for Sherry!
Visited two different wineries with our new friend Roger Davies from A Question of Taste.

First stop was Lustau Jerez making a fantastic array of sherries for every taste. While not the largest, very well respected and a wide range of sherries. Fascinating history and over 2000 casks aging in the ”cathedral”.

Second stop, a small very high quality producer of sherry and brandies. Fernando de Castella. Knock out brandy and several aged sherries.

Roger then took us for a delightful outdoor patio lunch in Central old town Jerez. Wandering around the ancient city, its own Alcazar and Cathedral.

If you have a chance to travel in the region, we highly recommend calling Roger to be your guide.

Roger was a fantastic guide. Not only is his knowledge of sherry so vast, he also knows the staff and owners of the places that we visited. This means that he's able to get insider knowledge of everything that's happening. When we visited Lustau, they had a setup that was new and he was able to find out that it was for the single-vineyard process that the winery is starting to experiment on. We tasted different sherry wines, vermut, and a sherry vinegar in Lustau. Really opened our eyes on sherry wines! Palo cortado was our favourite. Fernando de Castilla was the other place that we toured and in there we tasted a brandy as well as different sherry wines, some of which we even got to try straight from the barrel! The lunch that followed was also fantastic. Roger ordered various local specialities and some of our favourites were the garlic clams and fried baby squids. This tour was definitely one of the best ones we've had in our trip and Roger played a key role in it. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking into knowing (and tasting) more about sherry wines!

Friday had been a great day in Seville, fantastic Jamon Iberico, boquerones, bacalao in paprika, croquetas de camarones, cold cruzcampo….we were now Tapas aficionados. Tapas with a cold beer were great, but what would they be like coupled with a cold glass of Fino…..tomorrow we would find out on Roger’s Sherry Tour(Lustau winery and Lunch)
My brother and I had both seen Roger appear on a Rick Stein Seville episode and not only did he come across as an interesting guy, but was obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about good product. I don’t think we could visit Seville without meeting this guy - the tour was booked and we would be meeting Roger on Saturday morning.
The tour started the moment Roger picked us up at our hotel, he was just as enthusiastic as us and conversation flowed until we reached Lustau winery in Jarez. We entered the incredible cathedral like building that housed lines of Sherry Casks in infantry like formation, however this is where Roger gets to showcase the fantastic range of Lustau wines and his extensive knowledge of wines….all the way from the grape to the glass. Not only did we try the Sherries, but also the Vermouths (Red, Rose and White) and finally a Sherry Vinegar. Roger has a knack of animating the whole tasting experience and we couldn’t help but nod in agreement as he imparted his numerous years of experience.
Next, we was off to La Cruz Blanca - a smashing local restaurant in courtyard type setting. It was certainly a popular place and when the small plates of food started arriving, it was obvious to see why. Roger had ordered well, but when we had our first glass of chilled Fino with a plate of juicy clams the penny dropped!! Every dish seamed to make the Fino taste better, but then the Fino enhanced the food. Roger had certainly opened our eyes and it was ‘Dos Fino’ for the rest of our stay in Seville. In between the Winery and Restaurant we also walked round a local working fish market - a great place to wet the appetite.
Roger couldn’t have been a better host, entertaining, knowledgeable and a throughly likeable guy. If we could have stayed longer in Seville I would have certainly booked Roger for a Jamon/Olive Oil tour.
There’s no Question, Roger has good taste!!

Roger was just fantastic. I'm a WSET Diploma student and wanted more information than a standard tour could provide and Roger delivered that in spades. His knowledge of Sherry was superb, not only in terms of how it is made but, importantly for me, how the region has developed over time and what the market trends are.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone with a love of Sherry, especially if you want to go above and beyond the basics.

Highly recommend this wine tour to Jerrez de la Frontera with Roger. We had plenty of time to walk around two wineries and lots of opportunities to ask questions. Roger is passionate about wine and food and is very knowledgeable about both subjects. Our lunch after the main tour was just fabulous with delicious fish dishes at a popular local restaurant in Jerez. The cost of the day is well worth it. Will definitely consider going on his other tours next time wee visit. Thanks Roger! Fantastic day.

Last year we did an evening tapas tour with Roger from A Question Of Taste in Seville. It was a most memorable evening and we had such fun.
So when we returned to Seville this year we asked him to organise two tours for us. We firstly did the Jerez tour. I must admit I was not a huge fan of sherry. However, after a brilliant and informative visit to two great producers I began to rethink my position. We tasted many styles and vintages, saw first hand how the wines are created, stored and distributed and came away with a new respect for this often disregarded wine.
One of life's pleasures is to taste good sherry with jamon.
After the informative morning we were driven to nearby Sanluca where Roger organised a most memorable seafood lunch overlooking the beautiful estuary. A wonderful day.
On the following day we did the Jamon tour. This was truly outstanding. To see the free range Iberian pigs on the farm, meet Pollonia and be treated to the best potato omelette
ever was quite remarkable. Then we were off to the factories where the hams are cured and stored. There were thousands of legs of ham and the processing is stringent. We learned so much and were thoroughly entertained. Then it was off to lunch in a most delightful village where we instructed in jamon carving before a fabulous lunch of locally produced vegetables and various offerings of pork.
If you have the time in Seville a day spent with Roger Davies is an absolute treat.
