What an awesome way to kick off our trip! The entire crew at The Surf Shack is fantastic. Mike and Fran did an incredible job teaching our teenagers how to surf (even the one who was a little timid was standing up like a pro in no time), Jess got amazing pics, and the sweet gals in the office recommended a great coffee place right around the corner! The beach where they teach lessons is a great spot, and just chatting with this wonderful group of people—who have been giving their tips and every extra dollar they all have to the people who have lost so much up in Lahaina—made us want to support this small business even more. You can learn to surf all over Maui, but this outfit is the real deal!

We had a great time and would recommend. Pros: friendly staff, great beginner waves in safe shallow warm waters, they provide gear that properly fits. Cons: very crowded surfing area poses risks of people colliding in the waters, instructors were knowledgable and friendly and gave instructions on safety and popping up on board but then just released us to ride with no real instructions on riding the wave other than feedback after each ride.

My son had a blast. The instructors were so sweet to him, taught him well and had lots of fun with him. We went back a second day and my son said, “I’m going to miss my teachers.”
We will definitely come back again.

This was mine and my daughter’s first time surfing. The instructors did an awesome job giving hands on instruction and working with each individual to ensure you caught a wave. There were about 12 of us in the class and we each had about 10 turns catching a wave.
There are large rocks under the water. They do give you water shoes to wear but make sure you watch your step as it is super easy to stub a toe.
They have a photographer in the water with you and she did an amazing job catching all of the action shots to be able to take the memories home with you.

Absolutely amazing. Mike, our guide, was so knowledgeable and patient with me and my daughter. We both got up in the first run! Our photographer captured the magic perfectly. Their physical location is undergoing renovations, but still provided everything we needed. Cannot say enough great things about them!!

Nico was a great instructor. We were all able to learn to get up on the board and ride some basic waves. Great location. Loved the photos their professional photographer took as well.

Grandkids enjoyed the lessons, and the instructors were very good, in dealing with youth. The area was a little crowded but they worked well around all the people.

Our family from Illinois, had a blast learning to surf in Maui for the first time. Our teenagers learned so much from Francisco and Segundo while all along enjoyed their company.
