WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Guatavita
After picking up all guests at their homes, our tour starts at 7 am, we will go via the Calera to appreciate a panoramic view of the north of Bogota in the viewpoint, we will contemplate the beautiful landscapes of the Sabana de la Capital, then we will arrive at our first destination: The Colonial Town of Guatavita at 830 am, where we will be for 45 minutes, there we walk and appreciate the imposing white houses, with clay roofs and stone floors. Every corner of this beautiful place will be ideal for taking spectacular photos. Después de haber recogido a todos los participante, el tour inicia a las 7 am, iremos via la Calera para apreciar una panorámica del norte de Bogota, contemplaremos los bellos paisajes de la Sabana, arribaremos a nuestro primer destino: El Pueblo Colonial de Guatavita a las 830 am donde estaremos por 45 minutos; caminaremos y apreciaremos las imponentes casas blancas, con techos en arcilla y piso en piedra.
2. Laguna de Guatavita
To reach our second destination, we will take our vehicle and after 35 minutes of travel we will arrive at the entrance of La Laguna de Guatavita, it is a guided tour in a narutal reserve, a Spanish-speaking guide will take you for a walk after two hours, he will explain the ancient rituals of the Muisca culture and take you to contemplate the Impressive Laguna de Guatavita located on top of a mountain at almost 3000 meters high. If any of the members of the group wants translation in English, they must pay at the entrance of our bilingual driver who will translate the tour for you. Luego de 35 minutos de recorrido llegaremos a la entrada de La Laguna de Guatavita, es una visita guiada en una reserva natural, un guía del lugar de habla hispana los llevara por una caminata de dos hora, les explicara los antiguos rituales de la cultura Muisca y los llevara a contemplar la Impresionante Laguna de Guatavita ubicada en la cima de una montana a casi 3000 metros de altura.
3. Tocancipa
3. Our third destination is the Sabana de Bogota, which is not a specific site, on the contrary, it is the combination of all the landscapes that you will have the opportunity to see throughout the journey from when you leave Bogota until you return back to your hotel. It is an area that brings together many towns in the region, you will see valleys, different types of trees, animals, local vegetation, flowers of different colors and shapes, lagoons among others. Nuestro tercer destino es la Sabana de Bogota, la cual no es un sitio especifico, por el contrario, es la combinación de todos los paisajes que tendrás la oportunidad de ver en todo el recorrido desde que sales de Bogota hasta que regresas de nuevo a tu hotel. Es un área que reúne muchos pueblos de la región, veras valles, diferentes tipos de arboles, animales, vegetación local, flores de distintos colores y formas, lagunas entre otros.
4. Zipaquira
4. After contemplating "La Sabana de Bogota" for more than an hour of travel, we have finally reached our 4th stop: The town of Zipaquira, there we will taste a delicious typical lunch of the region in a local restaurant with many options for all tastes. We will take advantage of our proximity to the historic center of Zipaquira and we will walk for 20 minutes to explore its squares and colonial streets. Luego de apreciar la Sabana de Bogota por mas de una hora de recorrido, finalmente hemos llegado a nuestra cuarta parada: El pueblo de Zipaquira, allí degustaremos un delicioso almuerzo típico de la región en un restaurante local con muchas opciones para todos los gustos. aprovecharemos nuestra cercanía con el centro histórico de Zipaquira y caminaremos por 20 minutos para recorrer sus plazas y calles coloniales.
5. Catedral de Sal de Zipaquira
Last but not least, we will finally arrive at our 5th stop, The Zipaquira Salt Mine, called the First Wonder of Colombia. The Cathedral Salt Mine becomes one of the most important tourist destinations, it is a former salt mine that has been converted to a cathedral. You descend to the cathedral depths and you arrive to the great central dome where is possible to see the biggest cross underground, the greatest hall for the ceremonies of the cathedral and a nice boulevard. Besides, you might see the other atracctions such Cathedral Light Show, movie about the mine and the water mirror among others. You spend around 2 hours inside by your own. After we drive back to Bogota for over one hour driving and I'll drop you off in your hotel. Por último llegaremos a la 5th parada: La Mina de Sal de Zipaquirá, la Primera Maravilla de Colombia. Es uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes, es una antigua mina de sal que ha sido convertida en catedral. 2 horas dentro y regresamos a Bogota.

Our guides, Caesar and Louis were spectacular. The group (all single travelers) were a mixture of English and Spanish speakers. Caesar spoke fluent English. We were told the historical importance of each location and the drive away from the city. We explored the lake and salt mines on our own. The ‘trek’ to the lake was well worth the gorgeous views from the top. The salt mines provided audio explanations of the various steps to the death of Jesus. Tthe beautiful displays, light show and 3d movie were captivating. As a group we all enjoyed and I would recommend this tour with them.

The tour is not it was described. It started 745 am ended 245 pm. There was no guidance provided. I can not describe the activity as an excursion, but transportation services. The “guide” did not teach us anything on the tour, it was hours of silent driving. He did not accompany us the the salt cathedral rather told us where to buy tickets and where he will meet us after. All his explanations about the cathedral was: now you have seen the cartoon inside and know what is is all about. The restaurant chosen by him was abysmal. I have had Colombian dishes before (including the one recommended), it was meant to be traditional Colombian lunch, it was uneatable. I took the tour with two other people, that I have not met before and their experience matched mine.

I have submitted a request for a 50% refund and the operator messaged back to Viator as well as me directly, that he will allow the discount if I leave a good review. First of all, if I wanted to communicate with the operator directly I would have do so, secondly: this is extremely disingenuous and unprofessional to ask me for a good review when I am asking for a refund based on my terrible experience.

I loved this tour! It was a great way to start my Colombian adventure. We visited many locations, and the time spent at each place was just right. I had enough time to fully enjoy each activity without feeling rushed. The salt cathedral and lagoon were absolutely amazing! The tour was well organized, and I appreciated the small group size. Our guide, Cesar, was fantastic. He shared super interesting facts about Colombia and his own travel experiences outside of his home country in comparison, making it even more interesting. His passion is evident. Don’t think, just take this tour! It’s the right choice!
