Our hotel pick up started at 9am and the traffic wasn’t too bad. We skipped a few things on the list because they were of no interest to us. We said yes to a visit to the local art market instead but that’s very disappointing as it was nothing but a tourist shopping stop. The Batuan Temple was nice and small but the lack of commentary anywhere did impact the experience a bit. The rice terraces was the highlight and really the only reason we hired the car. We spent a bit more than 2 hours there including having a meal at a nearby cafe. Make sure you have appropriate footwear if you are walking down the rice terraces. Some steep steps along the way and it can get muddy. Lots of shops nearby if one is interested in souvenir shopping. You have to bargain really hard though to get a decent deal. The trip home was horrendous due to the local traffic, but that’s just Bali I was told. All in all very happy with the flexibility and our driver Sunargama was very polite and accommodating. Car is nice and clean.

Instead of transferring straight from Kuta to the hotel in Ubud, I decided that on the way I would take a tour of some spots in the surrounding countryside. This service had been recommended to me by friends who'd had a very good experience, so I decided to sign up as well.

Pak Gusti was personable and professional. Due to his extensive knowledge of the area, I was able to provide him with a few rough ideas about what I wanted to do, and then followed his lead with regards to extra suggestions, including visits to spots that were quiet and off-the-beaten-track.

In one day, we did the following:

- Pak Gusti found a breakfast spot that perfectly matched my request
- Visited a water purification temple, a preserved traditional village, and Gunung Batur volcano (where we had lunch with a view)
- Free coffee/tea tasting at a plantation
- Explored a temple carved in the rock face by a jungle river
- Swam in a secluded natural pool at the base of a waterfall
- Sampled local cuisine at a night market outside of central Ubud

As a solo traveler, it was nice to have Pak Gusti offer to capture some photos/videos of the experience for me to keep. I will recommend this service to any of my friends who are looking for a driver/day tour guide during their time in Bali.
