Hello Travelers, my name is Leandro Román, CEO of the World Lion Tour.

This experience is special because it includes:
History of Commune 13, Art through murals and graffiti, Culture and the social transformation of the sector.

Therefore we want to invite you to get to know our Comuna 13 in Medellín. Place that due to its location became the most dangerous sector in the world, we will tell you what really happened in this area, why did the rebel groups come here? (COMMUNE 13) how this place was formed, how the armed conflict was established, also speaking of the 24 military operations; which occurred from 1998 to 2002; including the two largest, Operation Mariscal and Operation Orion, and of course we will talk about the transformation

We will visit art galleries, a dance and rap show, a 3d neon house, a Coffee shop (Coffee Bar) and some spectacular viewpoints with some more attractions!

We highly recommend a tour with this tour company. We had the chance to do the tour in English with Nathalie and loved her sharing of experience and her professionalism. Definitely one of our highlights of our two week trip to Colombia.

That was an interesting walk and the stories.

However:

1. It took 2 hours, not 3.

2. The tour description says "we visit coffee shop" with snacks included - I don't think we had that.

3. At the end the guide said "it's a free walking tour so we depend on your tips". I'm OK with tips and I often take free walking tours, but that was not a free walking tour, I paid Viator $18 for it! For a moment I thought that maybe I joined a different tour, not the one I booked - but no, in the beginning the guide called us by names and my name was in his list. So maybe they merged a few tours, I don't know.

4. I felt a bit weird that the tour ended at the furthest point in the Comuna and the guide just told us to get back on our own (walk down, take the escalators, walk more, take a bus, and finally you will be back at the station). I would expect the guide to walk the group (or at least those who did not want to spend more time there on their own) at least to the bus.

Esteban was our guide in English and he made ir very interesting. This tour is a must in Medellin and I loved the way Esteban told us about the long violence and now opportunities history of the area.

The tour was great fun, lasted until 5pm so really worth it. Got to hear about the interesting past of Communa 13 and got to see the vibrant community it has since turned into. Our tour guide Santiago was amazing, always full of enthusiasm and his English was very good. Would really recommend this tour, plus we were told some of our tip is returned to the community to invest in the children's education.

If you're looking for a friendly, thoughtful guide with personal ties to many of the graffiti artists featured in Comuna 13, Leandro's your man.

Leandro had just launched his TripAdvisor page when I booked my tour, and he hadn't blocked out his hours of availability yet. So when I saw a 7:30am slot before my flight, I jumped on it. Instead of telling me it was a mistake on his page, Leandro graciously took me on an abbreviated private tour at 7:30am before his 9am official tour.

Although some of the shops/galleries weren't open yet that early, I still had a great time walking around, asking a bunch of questions, and learning about the history of the commune from Leandro's handy binder of historical photos.

Leandro is friends with many of the artists whose work you'll see, so it's cool to hear his take on their work and what it means from a current sociopolitical standpoint.

Thanks for accommodating me, Leandro, you're awesome!

Great tour with lots of input about the art in the Commune 13! Very interesting to see the different graffitis and their meaning. Not too much focussing on history though, more on art.

We found commune 13 inspiring. Since 2012 this area has been transformed. You feel like you are in an entrepreneurial ghetto. Everyone is delightful and the regeneration of this area of Medellin should be an inspiration to many city planners.
Enjoy the escalators!
And the graffiti

Went on a tour of Comuna 13 (12/10/19) with my tour guide Kevin. I mistakenly booked my tour for 3 AM instead of 3 PM but Kevin was very accommodating and let me change my tour without any charge. Kevin was flexible and met me earlier than we had originally intended at San Javier station. Kevin speaks English and Spanish fluently and can easily conduct the tour in either language. Kevin knows a large majority of the people in the Comuna and is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Comuna 13 and Colombia more generally. Kevin taught me a lot of things and was kind enough to finish the tour by taking me to his actual house and allowing me to meet his family. This was a one-of-a-kind, unique and educational experience where I met profound people and got to see some AMAZING art! I would recommend Kevin to anybody and I even suggest that you request him if possible.
