Lords of the Night were Police and Judges of the Venetian Republic.
The prison staff will escort you to an authentic Prison Palace with cramped cells, a court, and gruesome torture chambers with real tortures and justice tools. Casanova was arrested by the Lords of the Night in the Prison's Palace!
The Palace is "inhabited" by life-size figures of the Lords of the Night, prisoners, judges, lawyers, and all characters working in the prisons who were taken and recreated from ancient manuscripts.
The Prisons Palace houses one of the earliest prisons in Europe, dating back to 1500.
See authentic graffiti left by the inmates and get to know the exciting Casanova’s jailbreak: listen to the tale of when he managed to escape from the maximum-security prison!
Only for small groups (maximum 15 people per visit)

The boy who guided us studies criminology and was truly passionate in his explanations, capable of capturing attention.

Well presented profile of some of the twisted minds of the past displaying the more sadistic nature of the, predominantly, male members of society, possibly not much different to the present day just a different medium. Definitely worth the visit.

Some interesting facts, but disappointed that all the torture devices were replicas.
Was not very long, guided tour was less than 30 minutes.

The guide was fantastic, he knew a lot about the prison and the different tools. He was very friendly and answered any questions we had. It was a very interesting place and makes you think about Venice in the past.

This was a nice way to spend an hour. The museum was quite small but we still enjoyed the tour. The guide prompted for questions all tour and answered all but one. We were alone as a group of 4, so no multi lingual issues. For the price, this tour was good. There are some steep stone stairs you will walk. Also the meeting point was a bit unclear. From the square, cross the bridge to your left as you face the water. Then about 30 meters ahead, there is a door into the museum on the left. We showed the girl on the booth our voucher, and she directed us up the stairs to a small booth in the museum. The guide was waiting there.
