Had a whale of a time on this new tour that featured a diverse range of experiences from the uniquely triangular Caerlaverock Castle to the beckoning beaches of the Solway Coast, ethereal forests, rolling flower festooned countryside and breath taking cliffs culminating in the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, where climbing to the top, the sea views were spectacular with the added bonus later of seeing a white tailed eagle! The tour was well planned with plenty of breaks (if needed) allowing enough time to enjoy a lobster lunch in picturesque Portpatrick and an unhurried, relaxing evening in quaint Gatehouse of Fleet. Big on personality, charmingly witty and keenly imparting his knowledge of Scottish culture was our Rabbies guide Alistair, a true Scottish warrior-poet who kept time on this busy schedule while driving us safely, piping in some well chosen modern Scottish folk rock that only added to the atmosphere of a landscape that was reminiscent in some places of Cornwall whilst elsewhere, the Cotswolds, but always ever truly Scotland. With deer, waterfalls and Moffat toffee chucked in for good measure, we even spotted some hairy coos (which are not commonplace in this dairy region) as we drove out of Kircoobree following a short rest room stop. When we finally rolled back into Glasgow, it felt like we had been away a week despite the trip being only 2 days, a true testimony to this stunning but often overlooked region of Scotland, so I’m really glad I chose Rabbies!
