I had a great experience at Asakusa Ukonya! I was slightly nervous before going but Tomo-san made me feel so relaxed and comfortable throughout the experience. She did such a great job with the makeup and helped me pick the perfect outfit. The photographer-san helped with the photo posing and took great pictures! Leaving with great memories and photos/videos.

I had a most unique and amazing experience of being an Oiran Geisha. Thanks so much to Tomo and Tomo who were very instrumental in making my experience absolutely unforgettable! Through their explanation, I learned that an Oiran or Japanese prostitute had a much more decorative costume than that of a Geisha who was an entertainer or performer. All these started 400 years ago during the Edo period in Japan. And the reason they both wore white makeup was because during that time, their theaters where the Geishas performed were dark, and the white makeup allowed the audience to see them more clearly.
I also learned that there are 3 layers of the Japanese kimono: the inner kimono, the sash which was pulled very tight like a corset, and the uchikake or the jacket. By the time I was wearing the jacket, I couldn't move anymore because of the sheer weight of everything! Overall, I am very thankful and most overwhelmed that I got to have this once in a lifetime experience!
