Yellowstone Hiking Guides safely leads hiking groups into the Lamar Valley on a wildlife viewing day hike tour.
Our guides are experts and fun is a top priority. Regularly, we spot wolves, bears, and other rare wildlife from the trail in the backcountry of Yellowstone.
Our tours are off the beaten path, traveling on bison trails for the majority of the hike. Most tour providers in Yellowstone spend the majority of the day on the road, or very close to the road. Our guides take you into the backcountry for unique views of the Lamar Valley that you cannot see from the roadway.
Frequently, our guests tell us that they could not do this hike on their own. We also hear feedback stating this is the best part of our guest's vacation to Yellowstone.

My husband and I met Karli our guide for this hike with a small group. It was terrific from start to finish. We ran late but Karli was gracious when we showed up and made sure we were properly outfitted. She provided backpacks, bear spray, snacks and water.
We began the hike with a safety talk and immediately as soon as we began had to skirt a herd of bison in the trail. We saw Pronghorn, bears, Sandhill Cranes, a coyote, some one in our group saw a weasel.I am a birder and Karli made sure to point out raptors, Mountain Bluebirds, Yellow Warblers, several duck species and I got a great photo of a Western Tanagers. She had us walking at a comfortable pace and we had plenty of breaks. It was a cold day so she provided coffee and cocoa at the end of the hike. We had a great time. For us it was the highlight of a fabulous trip to Yellowstone.

Lamar Valley hiking tour with young, long blonde hair lady (Kaylie maybe :-) was a very good experience. She was prepared with extra warm clothing, hiking pools, binoculars, hot beverages, lunch and snacks. It was cold, windy, snowing and she made the whole trip nice and smooth to keep us warm and happy. She spent extra time after walk to talk to us and make sure we have all the questions answered. Well done and thank you

Our guide was Josh. He reminded us of a young Steve Irwin. You could just tell he loved his job. He was prepared with everything we might need for the day. We had an absolutely fantastic day seeing wildlife. We saw a badger about 20 feet from us that we must of startled. We didn't stay on the trail much because there were hundreds of bison we had to keep going around. We were supposed to cross a field to head to the trees for lunch. However, the field was covered with bison. Josh decided to take us down the hill to walk along the waters edge to get to the picnic area. However, when we were down there, all the bison started running down the hill to the water. We actually had to hide behind trees. Many ran just past us and we were able to watch the moms and babies forge the river. An experience you only see on TV! Other bison decided to just hang by the rivers edge so we had to start walking to get away from them as they were all very close. We finally made it to the picnic spot and enjoyed lunch which was pretty tasty. With the bison now down low, we decided to walk the ridge back towards the cars. As we were walking the ridge, all the bison down low now decided to run back up to the field. Such an incredible experience! To top that off, we had a pronghorn nearly walk right up to us. Such a curious one. These are things I'm sure aren't normal to see on a hike but certainly we would have never seen without the guide. Such a memorable and wonderful experience.

Great day to experience a part of Yellowstone we had not explored on previous trips. Although it was an unusually cold day (for June) - with occasional drizzle, and we didn't see as much wildlife as we hoped for - it was a fantastic hike. The landscape, the flowers, close up views of pronghorns, & most of all -the stories & info from our guide made it fascinating. Josh was our guide. He was very attentive to each person in the group to be sure everyone was safe & comfortable. He wisely brought extra rain gear, fleece jackets,gloves, etc. There were choices of various binoculars. Lunch was good. Highly reccomended.

Or tour guide, Josh was personable and knowledgable. He came prepared with any equipment needed to make the hike enjoyable and save. We experienced many upclose and personal wildlife sightings

Really enjoyable 6 mile hike that gets you away from the crowded roads in the Lamar Valley and the ability to see the wildlife up close in a safe manner. Our guide really knew the area and was able to lead a great hike. It was time well spent.

We did our tour early in the season and were lucky to have a small group which made the tour very personal. The guides told us in advance what to bring, but they also provided many backup items in case we forgot anything. I took advantage of the beanie hats they had since it was very windy early that day.
Our guides did a great job of keeping us safe, anticipating what the animals might do with a variety of factors in play. They also explained what they might do and why they might do it, which was educational.
Our guides had eagle eyes and spotted two different mammals bears with cubs up in the hills and set up a scope to let us see them well across the long distance. I loved that they were always ready to pull out a book to answer questions about flowers and birds.

Austin, Marissa, and Emily Joe were awesome and gave us a wonderful tour!! We saw 1 Grizzly with 2 cubs and another Grizzly with 1 cub! We also saw bison (including a newborn), prong horns, coyote, ground squirrels, mountain bluebird, and a red tanager. If you get a chance, it's a great tour!!

Our family group of 11 ranged in ages from 13 to 68. We all had a great hike in the Lamar Valley. Our guide, Joshua, was outstanding! He paid close attention to all of our needs - from a cup of coffee or hot chocolate on arrival, to his knowledge of the area and animals to the pacing of the hike to keep us all comfortable. Joshua made this hike the highlight of our week in Yellowstone and Grand Teton.
