This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". We were very impressed with the nice air-conditioned buses. The staff had plenty of water for everyone on board throughout the day. Our guide, Elisio, was so friendly, and took time to answer everyone's questions, with lots of visual aids and clear grasp of the location's history. He spent lots of time with all the kids, relating the Mayan culture and traditions to them in a way all could understand. The ruins are very well preserved, and it is clear that the local government is working very hard to maintain its integrity. The drive to the site is about an hour each way, but the cold, comfortable bus made it very doable, especially since there was a lot of sweaty walking at the site. One thing that wasn't advertised on Viator was the optional beach trip afterward, and we were pleasantly surprised by the opportunity to spend an hour in Mahahual for some great local fare on the beach. Definitely recommend this tour for any interested in a historical excursion.

Carlos and the team at Toucan Tours did a great job. Getting from the port to the office then onto the van for the drive to the ruins was quick and easy. Carlos did a great job explaining what we were seeing. This is a nice half day tour if you want to see some nicely excavated and restored ruins.

We took this trip with our elementary age children and Eliseo was our guide. We had such an amazing time! He was wonderful and so knowledgeable and funny. We all learned so much and I really appreciated that they planned multiple bathroom breaks and had plenty of cold water available.

They timed it really well too and even though there were multiple groups at the ruins, it never felt crowded or rushed. I would definitely take another tour with this company!

This was an interesting excursion and our tour guide was Mayan so we definitely learned a lot about the ancient culture. It was extremely crowded though and with our tour group of 20+ competing for space with all the other tour guides and trying to listen to everything was challenging. It was also extremely hot and humid and because you’re in the jungle, it’s also buggy - mosquitoes. Drink lots of water, consider a portable personal fan, and def spray bug spray on. This was not a great excursion for our 18 month old grandson who was bored and trying to climb and touch everything and run on uneven ground. A stroller is not practical to bring. We were very excited for the beach portion afterwards only to be very disappointed. Do not fall for having lunch at whatever restaurant they “drop” you. We were suckered into this and were stuck with no water view, extremely slow service (1 1/2 hours for tacos!). We had no time to go in the water, explore all the shops or anything else in the area. They forgot my shrimp tacos and they were marginal at best once I did get them. We were late getting on the bus.

We had an excellent experience going to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins with Toucan Tours! We followed the instructions to find the meeting point. We were able to ask a few staff members at the port for some guidance and clarification and were quickly pointed in the right direction. We rode in a very clean, comfortable, and air conditioned van. Victor was an excellent driver and got us to each destination quickly and safely. Carlos was an amazing tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and provided interesting facts about the ruins and nature around the area. After the ruins we stopped by a roadside fruit stand for pineapple with chili. It was delicious! Our group opted to go to the beach as part of the tour. There were several restaurants and a walkable area with shops and souvenirs. I highly recommend this tour! It was a great deal and the group was small (about 15 people). Take this tour! You won’t regret it!

My tour guide Carlos and driver Victor were excellent! Carlos was very knowledgeable and engaging. He stayed with us every step of the way. I loved that our group was small just my family of 5 and another family. I would definitely recommend to others.

I am glad we chose this local excursion on our cruise. Carlos was our tour guide. He was funny and knowledgeable. He not only told us about the ruins but the local culture. We even stopped at a local fruit stand and the fruit was amazing. I highly recommend them.

Victor and Carlos were amazing tour operators. They provided great stories about the ruins that were both informative and fun. Carlos took great care to keep our group on track and timed our activities with the other groups so that we were always doing something.
Victor took great care in making sure we got where we needed to go in a timely fashion and that we were having fun.
Loved the pineapple and chili by the roadside and the time at the beach.
This provider is a great deal and I highly recommend visiting with them.
