1. Piazza del Duomo
At the GS (GuidingSicily) infopoint in Piazza Duomo you will meet one of us, all authorized guides with official licenses. Together we will go to the discovery of Catania, a city teeming with life and full of sounds, colors and smells, eager to discover itself in the prying gaze of the curious traveler. Let's start right from the DUOMO, Norman in origin and baroque in appearance, an imposing building that in a few decades celebrates its first thousand years of history. On this same square there is also Palazzo degli Elefanti, our Town Hall, and the fountain with the symbol of the city, the liotru, an elephant in lava stone surmounted by an obelisk. If you have chosen the morning walking tour we will certainly not miss the adjacent historic fish market, where not only the freshest fish is exhibited, but you will find typical cold cuts and cheeses of the region, as well as fruit at literally bargain prices.
2. Palazzo degli Elefanti - World Heritage Site
The Palazzo degli Elefanti is our Town Hall and is so called because of the representations of the majestic mammal in the gables of the balconies on the noble floor.
3. A' Piscaria Mercato del Pesce
Adjacent to Piazza Duomo is the fish market, a market held every day, where you can buy a wide range of local food products: from fish to meat, from cured meats to cheeses, from fruit to vegetables ... do not lose!

The majestic Swabian castle that once overlooked the sea is now located in the historic center: in the 17th century a mighty lava flow filled the moat and surrounded it with its red-hot embrace. Impressive is the black basalt still perfectly visible today.
5. Via dei Crociferi
One church after another, one monastery after another ... the numerous baroque facades built after the devastating earthquake of 1693 overlook this street making it one of the most fascinating on the whole island.
6. Piazza Universita
The Palazzo del Rettorato, seat of the oldest university in Sicily (1434), encloses a delightful courtyard on whose lava pebbles tens and tens of generations of students have passed. In front of it stands the imposing Palazzo di San Giuliano, also a university seat, formerly the home of one of the most powerful and richest families in Sicily.

This guided tour covers a lot of ground over 2 hours and views most of the major ancient buildings in Catania. Very knowledgeable and the description of the historical context is assisted by the visual aids in the museum which is included in the tour.

She was the best tour guide I had in a whole month and a half of traveling Italy and at least a dozen paid tours and excursions during that time — hands down! Personable, hilarious, extensive knowledge and wonderful storytelling ability… The best!

Highly recommend this easy walking (mostly - a few sidewalks were old & rough) tour of the city. Covered a bit of history of the city as well as the present day status of the people & attractions. Giuseppe was a pleasant and informative guide who is from Catania. It was a hot day so he was mindful of taking breaks and finding shade for us. He was very helpful with guests with lost items during our tour. The fish market was fun & interesting tour stop. Really enjoyed it!

To see the Pesce market, the duomo, enjoy its pastries, eat in a typical restaurant, explore its beautiful streets, the historical part, making a base in Catania is a good option to explore.

We went on this tour upon our arrival to Catania and had the good fortune of meeting Esther, our guide. Knowledgeable, fun, and full of interesting personal anecdotes that made us feel as if we were on a stroll with a friend. She started in the Duomo, telling us all about St. Agatha and her martyrdom, took us inside the church pointing to all the important aspects of the church and it’s relevance to the city’s inhabitants. Outside she told us about all the buildings around the main piazza before taking us to the market and then over by the monastery, all along intermingling anecdotes, facts of importance, and offerings recommendations for sites, bars, and restaurants to visit. Definitely a positive and certainly recommended!!

I have. Been on many tours and I can honestly say that this has been the best tour that I've ever been part of. The tour guide was fantastic. I learnt so much and the historical importance of every place was highlighted.

Pleasant experience. Ivan, accompanying the information with a beautiful irony, in two and a half hours gave us a smattering of Sicilian history first and then that of Catania. Experience to be recommended as a first activity in Catania.

Turned up on time didn’t see the group of 40! People… We waited for 15 mins no contact or phone call.. So didn’t go on the tour… Asked for a refund and refused… So understandable I have to leave a 1 star rating as we were there on time no contact was received to ask where we were and now refusing to give me a refund… Sorry not a good experience
