The El Cat, built right here in Moss Landing, is a fully electric, 32 passenger, Coast Guard-certified vessel. This is a custom 37’ catamaran built and designed especially for the waters of our very own Elkhorn Slough.

The electric catamaran was comfortable, and the captain, Marina, was knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed seeing the otters up close. However, for the price of $45/ticket, I was expecting more of an educational tour with factual information about the estuary, which Marina provided occasionally, and less of the casual, anecdotal observations provided by the guide, Larry, who isn’t an academically informed naturalist.

What struck my family the most was how closely we connected with the inhabitants of the Elkhorn Slough. With Pelicans flying around, Egrets, Ducks, Geese, and Otters at play in the water as we passed by in our eco-friendly (almost silent) electric powered vessel. We felt like royalty with our captain and guide explaining every detail of the wildlife along the way. We could not have been in better hands or have felt more closely connected to the natural setting. Full immersion, no negative ecological impact, completely both educational and delightful. We highly recommend this tour!

The tour is short (1.45 hrs) but informative and well worth taking. You learn a bit about the history of ML, conservation efforts, and the many species of mammal, fish and bird in the area. Recommend.

This was the best wildlife safari I've taken in my life (outside of Africa and the Galapagos) - and there's no close 2nd! We saw 36 otters (the guides counted), many tens of sea lions and harbor seals and a ton of different bird species from pelicans and cormorants to great blue herons and great white egrets to lots of species of shorebirds and more. We didn't just see these animals in their natural habitat - we were very close, ~5-10 yards from the closer otters. I went with my relatives who've done this tour many times and told me this was typical.
The wildlife was nothing short of spectacular and our guide (a biology / naturalist PHD student, I think) was extremely knowledgeable about the otters and other species. We were also fortunate to have the owner, Joe, as our boat captain and he shared with us the history and quite a bit about the ecosystem. They were both very nice and knowledgeable, with loud clear voices. I'd give this tour 6 stars, if I could!

My husband and I had done the tour a few years ago. We have 3 grandkids ages 10, 8 and 10. we had been so impressed by the huge numbers of seats. otters and birds that we thought the kids should see them and would love the whole experience. Thenarrator was excellent and knowledgeable. They had binoculars, books and blankets for those that could use them. The kids used all 3. But was a huge disappointment to my husband and me was in 2 hours we saw 2 seals at a distance. Otters and birds were fine. The boat stayed in the middle of the slough whereas the last time the boat got very close to shore and you could see all the seals laying a top of each other and moving on the bank. I asked the narrator if the seals were only there certain times of the year? and she said no, they must be off feeding in the bay. I don't know if different tour companies float in different areas of the slough and maybe we toured with a different company, but no seals equaled a big disappointment.

The crew were very knowledgeable and communicated very well. Their enthusiasm was contagious. Both a pleasure to be around. The Slough is an interesting and biodiverse area. Time well spent.

Our guide was so knowledgeable and spoke with such interest and love for the wildlife around us. She shared so many interesting facts about the bay, the wildlife and the history of the slough. The otters were adorable! Thank you Cindy.

We had the best time on our wildlife safari!! The slough is just amazing with so much to see - amazing birds, seals, sea lions and of course wonderful sea otters! We learnt loads from our guide and it was an absolute highlight of our trip to the US.
