Playa del Carmen is an excellent place to scuba dive. Our reefs are heathy and we have many fish - particularly compared to the numbers of fish you are likely to see in Cozumel. However, the quality of the corals is probably better over in Cozumel, so if you are particularly interested in Coral, then check out out Direct-to-Cozumel dive which you might prefer.
Our instructors will take excelent care you you and we dive in small groups (maximum 5 people) to ensure that can get the maximum enjoyment from the dive. Where possible we also work hard to match experience levels within each dive group.
Out instructors as passionate about the ocean, therefore during your experience you can expect to learn about the ocean and the wildlife you will discover.

Just dove on the C-53 wreck and Paso del Cedral this morning. Joaquin was our guide and he was very cool and personable. Both dives were amazing it the wreck dive was the best dive I’ve ever done. It was jam packed with fish.

Amazing reef dive! This was a great way to experience scuba diving near playa del Carmen. You’re taken out on a boat to the site you you need to get to the boat offshore so bring a dry bag if you want to bring stuff on the boat because you’ll be walking through the waves to get the boat.

Tank-Ha
I just got back from 12 days diving in Playa del Carmen with Tank-Ha. It was a fabulous trip, due entirely to the great staff and owner.
My plan was to dive for 11 days out of a two week trip, and to complete a couple of new certifications. I contacted Tank-Ha a couple of weeks in advance, explained my situation and desires. Joseba set me up, and agreed to work out what I needed as needed.
I did PADI online training for Nitrox and Advanced Open Water at home, and did my in the water training dives my first two days in PdC. We had a tentative schedule for reef dives in PdC (1—20 min boat trips) and in Cozumel (Tank-Ha has direct boat dives - 45 min one way to Cozumel).
I wanted to dive 4 dives a day so they set me up with four tanks Nitrox, which helped ease the effort — no extra charge. Cozumel trips take a little longer (but I highly recommend), so that limits you to two dives. Diving the PdC reefs you can fit in four dives in a day.
I was trying to get in 35 to 40 dives over 11 days, but weather intervened (high winds shut down the harbors). So, Tank-Ha set me up to dive in the Cenotes, and I did six Cenote (cavern) dives over three days. I had not planned on this, but the Cenotes are a unique experience and not to be missed! “The Pit” is over a 100 feet deep. “The Bat Cave” has actual bats. “The Cathedral has underwater stalactites and stalagmites and is spectacular. Cavern dives are dark, and done with flashlights, but there are intermittent openings to the sky. I somehow managed to forget my wetsuit for a cenote dive, but Nick called a friend nearby, and managed to get me a suit for the day.
The reef dives, both PdC and Cozumel were great. Lots of coral, thousands of fish and other critters. I saw more than 15 turtles, sharks, barracuda, lion fish, lobster, crabs, many morays. The reef dives are all drift dives, with the current variable. You just drift along, very low effort.
I worked with a number of dive masters (Coral, Joachim, Ariana, Pablo, Nick, Johnny) all of whom brought both great skills and different perspectives. These folks are all experienced professionals, but also a lot of fun to be with and dive with. And not to forget the boat crews. The captains and hands assisted with gearing up for the dives as well as loading and unloading.
I brought my own equipment, but I have to say the rental gear they have is extensive and very good quality. Apex regulators, for example.
I really want to thank Matt for all the personal attention and making me feel right at home, from day 1 onsite.
There are something like 40 Scuba shops in PdC. I expect a lot of them are good. But if you want great, Tank-Ha’s your best option!

Tank-Ha was able to get us in last minute after our Cozumel diving was cancelled for the day. They even let us store all our luggage with them as we hadn't checked into our hotel yet. Julian was an amazing guide who gave us a lot of great instruction as we are newer divers. The boat snacks were very tasty. Bonus points for the sweet shop pup Maya who is the cutest.

The best diving center I have ever been to. They are not only super nice but also and more important super well organized. Our experience with them was out best experience in a diving center, they explain everything very well, and really make sure you have a great time, I even did an extra course part of my advance certification with them and I am so glad I did because I was able to go deeper and see amazing things in Cozumel, also I feel they really care about safety and that is the most important for me. We did a total of 4 dives on 2 day and the second day they had everything ready for us (our wetsuit, fins, regulator), they provided water bottles with our names on the boat, sandwiches in between dives, little details that for sure make a huge difference, we will for sure go back to experience another great dive with them and i hope is very soon. Thank you very much for everything.

Everyone here was extremely professional and welcoming. They were able to accommodate me after I made a mistake with my reservation and gave me all the information and attention while explaining the process. Carolina and Michael are great and the scuba instructor, a young female whose name I unfortunately can not remember is also amazing and professional. She was amazing. I 100% recommend this company. They do everything by the book and make sure you have the best safe and enjoyable experience possible.
