Start pedaling heading Catania for about 5 km in a lowland area.
Our aim is to warm up our muscles and get acquainted with our road bicycles. Once we have finished the first part of climb of Etna tour, comes a soft hill 5% to 10% for about other 5 km. We pass above Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, a little town so named because of an underground river flowing here from the northeastern slope of Mount Etna. Observe the changes in vegetation, which becomes increasingly bushy and wild. We finally find ourselves surrounded by olive groves, fields and greeneries, characteristics for this region. We had a nice little group of three plus Marco our guide. As expected, there were a couple of longish climbs followed by a flatter 8km which was good to rest the legs a bit. One final water stop before the last 14km climb to the refuge. Roads were good and the gradient never too steep. Excellent coffee and cake at the top before the long descent back to Naxos. Slightly spoilt by a couple of tour buses and some iffy road surfaces but that's not Marco's fault of course. Decent bikes, look like they're well maintained. Highly recommended.

Our guide, Luigi, was excellent. He was very patient with our slow pace and informative about the surrounding area. It was hot the day we cycled up Mt Etna at 91 deg F.....Luigi kept us topped off with fluids from the local water fountains and our water bottles. The bikes we rented from them were top notch.
Highly recommend them for anyone who desires to cycle Mt Etna.

The overall experience was great and would definitely do this again with Leonardo. However, I would make small adjustments in planning for a better experience.
- Set expectations for you guest such as bring your own food and drinks. I thought there was going to be a rest stop between climbs to fuel up...only water powered me through the ride. Next time, I will bring more food and proper hydration
- Set expectations that we need to climb at a minimum of around 6-10km/hr avg. otherwise the ride will be too long. I cramped up near the end so we ended completed the entire ride in 4hrs. I think to let everyone know that max ride time is around 5-6hrs.
- While Leonardo set the pace and lead the ride it was just him and I. While he did his best to guide me through the climb it would have been better for him to set the pace based on my conditioning. I was soloing until the next regroup point after I cracked with cramps.
These are very minor points and like I said would definitely recommend to all my friends.

I had a one on one guided road bike tour with Enrico. Booking was easy and email communication was quick and responsive. I hired my bike. We did the Wine Routes tour. Enrico was incredibly informative about the countryside that we rode through. The highlight for me was the climb to Castiglione di Sicilia and the views from Castello di Lauria. A thoroughly enjoyable ride and Enrico was a very friendly and professional guide. Highly recommended!
