Whirling Dervish Ceremony: It is known as the most mystical dance in the world, created and developed with the inspiration of Rumi (1207-1273). It taught by Shams-i Tabriz to Mevlana. In fact, when looked more deeply, it is the ritual of the Mevlevi dervishes. It can be summarized as the ritual they perform by opening their arms to both sides, turning their right palm to the sky and turning their left palm to the earth, and taking them from God and giving them to the people, accompanied by instruments such as the Ney. (Reed Flute) Here, music is an instrument that helps meditation.

This was the highlight of my trip to Cappadocia. I was utterly mesmerised by the focus and devotion of the dervishes, not to mention the talented musicians. On top of this, the location at an original caravansary (Silk Road rest stop) made for a perfect, spirituality uplifting, evening. It was truly magical!

The transport was very nice. The ritual was very calming and moving. It was incredible. No photos until the very end, which I think was the best solution. Everyone engaged in the ritual performance. Which is very mesmerising. We all enjoyed it

Amazing experience! The show was authentic, performed inside a Caravan Sarai built in the year 1249. The dervishes were dedicated, middle aged performers. The whole performance was nicely explained in English I'm a leaflet distributed at the beginning. Icing on the cake was the 10 minutes photo op where the dervishes re-enacted parts of the ceremony only for the tourists to take photo/video memories (since photography was forbidden during the ceremony).
Overall, a memorable experience!

The ceremony was as mesmerizing as we thought it would be. The music was actually played live. The venue also made the experience even more authentic as it is an actual caravanserai. Our guide, Shahin, gave us lots of background and was just an angel. He even had tips for great photos/videos after the ceremony. All in all, it was truly a wonderful experience.

A beautiful and spiritual experience. They gave us plenty of time to take pics at the end so don’t stress if they say no pics while they are performing.

Mystical, ethereal and fascinating ceremony by the Sufi Dervishes, followers of Mevlana, (Rumi).

No photos during the ceremony, but they allowed about 2 mins after the final prayer.

This is NOT a show. Truly a moving experience.

Go!
