When it was called Akragas, Pindaro considered it to be "the Most Beautiful among Mortal Cities". The town was founded by colonists from Rhodes and Crete coming from nearby Gela and reached its maximum splendor in the V c. BC when the magnificent Doric temples were built on the southern hill. In 406 the town was conquered by the Carthaginians though with the last Punic War it passed into Roman hands, who took over and changed its name to Agrigentum.

We spent an unforgettable day with our guide Gigi Montalbano. A well of knowledge of the history of this enchanting place. A dive into the thousand-year history that few nations like Italy can boast. Thank you Gigi, because with your patience, passion and knowledge you made us live a unique experience. If we ever return to Agrigento we will contact you to relive other emotions like those of today.

An amazing place, absolutely wonderful to wander around among all these amazing, well-preserved ancient remains. Very beautiful! It is well worth the time it takes to drive there.
Unfortunately, there is nowhere to eat lunch or have a coffee outside the entrance, only in the area itself. When we discovered this, it was a bit far to go back.

I have never written a review before and always preferred to keep my opinions private. Well this rule has now been broken. To be brief, my wife and I took a 14 day vacation to Sicily. We hired Mimmo to drive us around Sicily touring 4 of the major cities we chose. Hiring Mimmo was the best decision we made from years of traveling. We received a lot more than an excellent driver. We found Mimmo to be the nicest, professional and historically knowledgable person you can imagine. He was the "icing on the cake" from an amazing visit to Sicily. Grazie Amico!

We were picked up by Mimmo at our hotel at 8:30am in Palermo. It’s was approximately 3 hours to Agrigento. Mimmo gave the six of us a great tour of the site with thoughtful explanations and context of what we were viewing . He then picked a great seafood restaurant for us to have a late lunch at before heading back to Palermo . Glad that we took this tour .

Picked up by our guide Mimo in safe, comfortable automobile, and our guide kind enough to provide bottled water, a nice detail. Drive to the Valley of Temple is about two hours, from Palermo to the south side of Sicily. A very interesting drive, the countryside with vineyard,

olive groves, old churches. The road to Corleone is about an hour outside of Palermo. Very beautiful and mountainous area.

We arrived at the Valley, stopped for brief coffee and snack, entered the park. About 200 yard walk, wheelchair easily accessible.

Mimo gave complete analysis of the Temples. The view of the Mare Nostrum is incredible from the Temples. From there to a nice seaside lunch, and drive back. We stopped at a promontory, another unforgettable view. Mimo is the best guide for this trip, a native Sicilian with years of experience and complete expertise. Do not miss out on this trip
