All Catman Surf School lessons start on the sand with ocean awareness and safety. We’ll go over the basics on how to position yourself on the board, paddling, and how to pop up. Afterwards, we’ll transition to the surf, followed by your first go at small white water waves. Your safety always come first, and Sergio will be by your side every step of the way. Once in the water, he’ll show you how to read the waves, position your take off, and the etiquette of wave riding. His private lessons are built to make your adventure on the waves one to remember. Best instructor in the area. We saw so many large groups of people with few instructors. We definitely got more of a hands-on experience from someone who prioritized our safety, and comfort!

Sergio was the most kind and fun teacher we could have had for surfing lessons. He’s super funny and very patient with your experience in learning to surf. I caught some really good waves and he made sure to let my wife and I know how happy he was for our success.
He also provided a scratch surf t-shirt and gave us cold water bottles.
Oh yeah, did I mention he won the national Mexico surf championship here in Cabo in 2006? Yeah so he definitely knows what he’s doing.
Don’t go expecting to be a pro though after your lesson. I’m a very athletic person and can easily pick up new sports(plus I skateboard) so it was really easy for me to get the hang of it and ride some good waves.
My wife on the other hand had a harder time and didn’t get to really ride any waves until the last couple of waves that came by.
With that being said, this isn’t a one-time thing. Be prepared to throw away those nerves and false expectations of what surfing is. Surfing is a very patient, slow, yet thrilling sport. This should be your launch pad into a lifetime of surfing just like it will be for my wife and I. And Sergio was definitely the perfect launch pad for us to go out by ourselves and practice more and more.

Awesome surf lesson, reasonable price. So nice, helpful and attentive. We did a group lesson for 6 for 2 hours. One of the kids with us wanted to try at the last minute and we were able to just add her in.

So so good he was the best teacher and super kind and paddled us out and helpful would recommend to any beginners but had such a good eye for the waves good for advanced too knows the best spots

So happy I found Catman Surf on TripAdvisor. Booked private lessons for my twin girls (12 yrs old) with Sergio. It was their first time surfing and I was amazed how quick they learned. He is great with kids and was by their side the whole time. Can’t wait to return for more lessons.

I booked private lesson for myself and one for my 12 year old son. This was our very first time surfing, with Sergio’s coaching and help we were both able to stand up and surf on our very first try. Sergio did a great job reading the waves and letting us know when to paddle and when to let one pass. He gave us tips on how to best get out and how to let the waves pass without falling off the board as we saw many others do! Highly recommend!

Sergio "Cat" is hands down the best surf instructor in Cabo! He started me off from Level 0 100% Beginner, to now an intermediate surfer that can surf 6ft waves at the time of this review. I've had over 25 private lessons from him, and there is not a day that passes that I don't learn something new from him. The guy is a legend in Mexico and has won so many surf contests in his lifetime. To have the opportunity to have someone pass down all of that knowledge to you is a blessing. He has not only given me a lesson, he has taught my wife, son, nephews and other friends. And on top of all of this, he's amazing person. Do yourself a favor and take a lesson from him. You'll thank me later!
