Take a rare look inside an original 17th century mansion built by ship captain Stephen Daniels in 1667.

We’ll start in the old Parlor, richly decorated with antiques and historic details: low ceilings, an original fireplace and wide-pine floors. A selection of historical twas are provided; the same types drank in this house in the 1700s.

Then we’ll immerse ourselves in the old rustic kitchen for a glimpse of what daily life was like when Salem was on the frontier; complete with 9’ cooking fireplace and protection marks carved into the wood to ward off the evils of the world.

Throughout you’ll get an intimate look at original details from the Witch Trials, American Revolution and beyond. You can sit in the furniture, touch the objects, take all the photos. This house is not a museum nor a reproduction; it's an original home representing over 350 years of daily life.

Ticket proceeds go toward preservation of the House.

We had a great guide, Vijay!!, who brought this house to light! A rare glimpse into an elite home who made its money during Salem’s maritime heydays 400 years age, a tour enriched by a deeper understanding of what it meant to live, entertain, parent, make a living, and survive in a time period where electric light did not exist, when people had to fetch water from a well a block away, and when they scratched double Vs (a W that stands for the Virtuous Virgin Mary) to ward off evil spirits. Everything took longer and was immensely harder to accomplish back then. It’s amazing to have this historical house open to tourists and local neighbors (us included.)

Many thanks to the owners for choosing the route of an inn and a small private museum as opposed to turning it into another private mansion.
We loved our tour and we’ll bring back our friends and family.

Thank you again, Vijay!

We loved staying in such a historical home (built in 1667 and one of only 11 homes still standing from when the Salem Witch Trials took place).

We did two tours with the Daniel's House: Inside the Daniels House 4-5PM, then Local Lore by Candlelight, 6-7:30 PM. You don't have to be a guest of the hotel to sign up for the tours and while both tour guides were great and informative, Vijay who did the candlelight one was outstanding. He was a true historian and storyteller so he really gave us a better understanding of how the Puritans lived and how their strict way of life, superstitions, and paranoia could have led to what happened there. What a crazy 15 months there!! Glad we weren't Puritans!

After the tours we walked around town (lots of people in costume), had dinner at Brother's Taverna and then popped over to Bit Bar to check out all the arcade games. The next morning we had breakfast as Red's Sandwich Shop (really good) and walked around some more. It feels like every building has a plaque on it and was built in the 1700's! I just loved being in a place so old and rich with history.

We walked through the Salem Witch Trials Memorial, saw The Witch House and Allison's house from Hocus Pocus, checked out some more shops (basically all are Halloween/Witch/Vampire themed), but then we were ready to get out of there as the crowds were really starting to build.

What a great tour with Vijay! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but loved the way he told the story of the house. Great history & context without some of the tall tales that guides sometime tell. It is magical just to imagine yourself in the very same space, over 300 years ago!

This was an unexpected treat! Not the usual, please come in and walk through a house and let us talk. How absolutely refreshing! Interactive is right! You got to go in the house and actually sit down while our guide talked about the long history of this beautiful home. And, not only sit down, but sit in period furniture, while enjoying your tea by candlelight. Rachel did a wonderful job talking about the history of the house and the various furnishings. It was also wonderful just knowing that someone loves the house enough to keep it historical while living there AND their willingness to share their home with others. We think it's a Salem "must see"!

This was the last activity we did in Salem and our whole group unanimously agreed that it was the best thing we did on our trip! Our guide, Vijay, was so warm and knowledgeable and relayed the information in a captivating way. We loved being able to sit in authentic period furniture in a room lit only by candlelight as Vijay provided historical context for the Salem witch trials and life in the 1600s in Salem. Highly recommend!

One of the best and most informational home tours I have ever been on. The tour is a living museum so you got to touch and feel all the items within the home. This home is beautifully kept and really shows how people lived around 300 years ago in Salem, MA. Not only would I go back and tour again but I would love to stay in their bed and breakfast at some point. Definitely visit these folks if you visit Salem, MA.
