A typical “Mexican Sunday”, taking a boat ride through the canals of Xochimilco on a “trajinera”, surrounded by a floating world of mariachi and marimba music. Visit to Ciudad Universitaria (University town), declared by UNESCO “Human Patrimony”, which was built on a petrified sea of Lava. On the way back we will stop at Coyoacan, an old colonial town which is now incorporated into Mexico City, and we will cross also Insurgentes Avenue, the longest in Mexico City, passing by the Insurgentes Theater, popular for its Diego's mosaic mural, icons of Mexican theater stories.

The canals were a cool experience but our driver was not bilingual as promised. While I know minimal conversational Spanish, I feel like the listing was misleading as it promised a tour guide who was bilingual and can share information about the beautiful town of Coyoacán and about Frida Kahlo. He left us to go on the boat ourselves with a non-English speaking guide so we didn’t get to do anything but sit there and go up and down the canals silently. There was one complimentary beer but no fiesta vibe as shown in all other listings for Xochimilco. While I did enjoy the private boat ride and having a very kind private driver, the listing made it seem like we would have much more (commentary, learnings) for the expensive price of $129.
I think it’s a great experience for those who want a mellow and private trip, but not for people who wanted something more festive or to actual engage and learn from the guide.

Our guide Alfredo was punctual, very knowledgeable, and warm. We traveled as a small group of three and there was never a dull moment. We got to try delicious churros, pastel de zanahoria, quesadillas and tacos de canasta in Coyoacan, and visit the beautiful canals of Xochimilco during a brief but memorable trajinera ride (we opted for a shorter tour but had time for plenty of sights and learned many interesting facts from our guide). We were concerned that it wouldn’t be as fun as such a small group but it was very engaging. He even took us on a fun mezcal and pulque tasting tour before dropping us back off at our hotel. We felt that the tour was tailored to our interests, and our guide went above and beyond! We will strongly recommend Alfredo to all our friends.

Wow our tour guide was amazing! He knew so much about the city, local neighborhoods, and even gave us a little background of his life. Super safe, trustworthy man. Book it!

Mr. Manuel was just excellent luckily he allowed us to change cayoacan since we had already been there for another nearby colonia and the exp was superb thank you so much for everything making my last day in Mexico a memorable one!

Our guide Dante was excellent! Knowledgeable, funny, patient with the traffic! The boat ride and learning about the area was amazing. Coyocan market was fun and excellent food !

We decided to make a stop in Mexico City to visit one of my aunts who is having health issues. Wanted to do something we hadn’t done yet, with not too much walking but fun, this was it! Our guide had great information and took his time and gave us great information and entertained my aunt by letting her chime in the knowledge she has of the city. What had me confused and upset was that he let us know that the tour company needed $72.00 extra, in cash, in addition to what we had already paid. We asked what it was for and he shrugged his shoulders and said he had no idea but was informed he had to collect it from us before we left Xochimilco. Instead of fully enjoying the trajinera ride, I called (no answer) and was emailing the tour company to find out why. The last email stated that everything was taken care of and the enjoy our tour. As of yet we haven’t hear anything from them, so I know we were ripped off here, as my husband didn’t want to make a fuss and paid.
I would HIGHLY advice to use a different company to do this tour.

The driver arrived an hour late.we almost had an accident because the driver was speeding to make up the 1 hour delay.

We were guided on a private tour for 2 by Gabrie who was exceptionally knowledgeable and explained the history of both the Floating gardens and Coyoacan. Gabriel was an easy guide his English was fluent and the tour went at our pace. Unless you are in need of company I would highly recommend spending the extra for an easier stress free experience.
