This wonderful hike will take you to one of the most iconic photography and vortex areas in Sedona, yet will feel like an off the beaten path adventure and away from the masses. Best of all, this hike offers unique experiences, photos, and views during each passing season in Red Rock Country.

During the Autumn, this hike is the best in AZ to experience the Fall foliage and capture the incredible flushings of green, yellow, orange, red, and even purple too. The Spring, will bring an echo of melodic birdsong and an eruption of life around every corner. While the Summer, blesses you with a lush riparian habitat to shield you against the suns intensity and soak your feet in the chilly waters of Oak Creek. Winter offers unmatched tranquility, and allows, you to take enriched photography of Cathedral Rock with snow and frozen seasonal waterfalls softy rolling down its sides. Along this hike, it's hard not to contemplate if Sedona is as much of a desert as it is an oasis for life and love.

My friends and I had a great hike with Jason. He arrived on time and took the time to explain the hike. He was very personable and made everyone feel comfortable. Upon arrival at the trail, he provided us with backpacks filled with healthy snacks, water, and rain ponchos just in case. He also had the UV hiking shirts and hiking sticks available. He was very patient and knowledgeable about the different trees and how they were used many years ago for medicinal reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge of healthy foods and snacks. He encouraged water breaks and actually stopped to make them happen. When we got to the top of our hike, he took out a small picnic blanket, cheese and crackers, and grapes to go along with the healthy snacks that he provided at the start of our hike. Our return back down the trail was just as pleasant and enjoyable. He had cold drinks and water available when we returned to the van. My friends and I discussed possible doing a self guided hike in the evening and Jason took the time to give us a map with highlighted suggestions of the hikes that he would recommend doing on your own. His restaurant suggestions were on point. I highly recommend Jason and Trail Lovers if you are visiting Sedona and looking for a wonderful guided tour.

Wow. This was money well spent. We scheduled our half-day hike for the morning after we arrived in Sedona (flying from Wisconsin to Phoenix and driving up to Sedona the day before). We scheduled for 6am.

Initially, we had a delay in communications with our guide to discuss the pickup (i.e. they picked us up at our AirBnB) so we had to provide an address, which we did about 7pm the night before. Which felt like cutting it close. Played phone tag the day before the hike, so we were a little worried about what we purchased at first but once that was ironed out, all was well. It was a private tour and we asked for a 'sampling' of a few 'off the beaten path' types of places.

Our guide, Conner, was fantastic. He picked us up around 5:40am, close to the agreed upon time. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, as you would expect. However, he exceeded my expectations with his knowledge about the fauna, animals, geology, etc. If he didn't know an answer, he didn't make up an answer, he just admitted to not knowing. Yet he had the answer for most questions. If something was more hype then reality, he pointed it out.

He fulfilled our primary request of not going to locations that everyone else is going to. Not easy to do in Sedona. We visited 3 locations. The first being a slightly longer hike (maybe a couple of miles), the second and third being shorter hikes but with fantastic views and not a lot of people. My wife and I are in our 50s and mildly out of shape and he tailored the hikes to our fitness level, taking breaks as needed but filling the breaks with great details about the native plants and animals.

As anyone visiting Sedona learns quickly, nothing is cheap in Sedona. Prior to our trip, I was a little concerned about the cost of a private guided hike not being justified. After experiencing it, I will tell you that it was worth every penny and enhanced the remainder of our solo hikes in the following days because we were able to recognize various features of the landscape and knew great places to go.

Not only that, but our guide gave us a tip on a location to visit later in the week when we took the trip up to the Grand Canyon. It was by FAR the best possible location to view the Grand Canyon from away from throngs of people. Won't be sharing that tip here as I don't want to ruin it for the others that like to get away from crowds.

I could go on and on about all of the benefits we received from this guided hike but I think you get the point. It is very much a smart investment in the trip and I highly recommend doing this on your first day as it enhances you entire trip. If you get Conner as your guide, you're in luck.

This was the best tour we have ever taken! Jason and Derek arrived on time and informed us that due to heavy rainfall the day prior our scheduled Cathedral creekside hike would be flooded and the drive to the site could take 2 hours. They asked if we would be interested in doing the mescal trail and then another location where we could see Cathedral rock. They were very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We had a varied group of hiking experiences and they were very courteous and made sure everyone in our party was comfortable throughout the hike. The snacks they provided were delicious! Jason stopped and took photos for us! They were a great pair and we recommend them to anyone visiting Sedona! Thank you Jason and Derek!!!

We started off early, which was recommended by Trail Lovers when we booked the hike-I’m so glad we did! We walked along the creek with just our guide able to enjoy the peace of the trail and have it all to ourselves. The rising sun played off the golden leaves of the creeks trees and the reflections on the water were magical. We were treated to beautiful morning light on the red rocks surrounding us and the stillness of the morning. Our guide was knowledgeable and well prepared while keeping us at steady pace to get some exercise and also point out all the beauty surrounding us. This is the way to see Sedona. Can’t wait to come back and do more hikes with Trail Lovers.
