WHAT TO EXPECT
1. Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre
After pickup at the travellers hotel, we head down town to the city centre with the sea on our left hand and the city on the right.
We will stop at the Harp, ,,Harpan“, the home of the Opera, Symphonic orchestra, Reykjavik Big band – basically all music genre - and have a look at this beautiful building from the inside. It has two restaurants.
2. Reykjavik
From there we go through the city center, by the parament building and all the most historic important official buildings, into the City hall on the lake, where there is a huge 3d map of the country. We will pass by Icelandic Museum of art, when the Settlement museum and the oldest house in the country on our way out of the cold.
3. Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus
Next to the Cultural house, is the more avant garde, Reykjavik Art Museum where it is nice to sit down over warm chocolate and pastries or beer and a light lunch, while overlooking the harbour area. This is a good opportunity to get familiar with the visitors special interests if any. The tour is partly custom made but after the refreshments we are half way through the tour.
4. Old Harbour
Leaving the Reykjavik Art museum and the old harbour area, we will take a detour to the souroundings of the Maritime museum, the Whale museum (life size) and the Fly over Iceland building. On our way to a couple of stores with icelandic design, we will also drive through the west part of the city, between colourful older houses standing next to the former harbour area, dressed in wrought iron and more robust concrete houses from the same era.
5. Reykjavik
From the west part of town we will head to a couple of stores with icelandic design, can be clothing, home design, wool etc.
6. Perlan
Before we head to the hotel, we will stop by the Pearl, ,,Perlan“ and go up to the observation deck where visitors can see most parts of the city while getting some information on various buildings and areas. Travellers can decide if they want to stay for the ,,Wonders of Iceland" in the Pearl building or be taken back to the hotel.
