Explore the UNESCO-listed temples and shrines on our hassle-free private car tour.
The tour will start from the Shinkyo Bridge connecting the human world to the spiritual world where Mt. Nantai is worshipped as one of the sacred mountains of Japan. Discover the culture and history of the samurai by exploring Toshogu Shrine, the most gorgeous architecture in eastern Japan which was built in the early 17 century as the mausoleum of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, known as the father of EDO for 265 years until 1867.
In the afternoon, you can either explore more of Nikko's nature such as using the Akechidaira ropeway, see the Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji, or visiting Ashikaga Flower Park, or have a fun time at the Edo Wonderland.

The mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu Shogun, the founder of Tokyo (Edo) the most gorgeous architecture in Japan. (60 to 90mn)
2. Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura
Back in the Edo period in the 18th century. Disguise yourself in samurai, ronin, feudal lord, or wear a kimono to be the princess of the feudal period, etc., enjoy the show, and become part of the scene. (120 to 150mn) Ninja Show is popular.
3. Shinkyo Bridge
Beautiful historical bridge. (10mn)
4. Yomeimon (Main Gate)
The main gate of Tosho-gu, also known as Higurashi no mon, so magnificent that you can spend one whole day just seeing this gate.
5. Taiyuimbyo Shrine
The Mausoleum of Tokugawa Iemitsu the grandson of Ieyasu is also part of the world heritage. (30mn to 60mn)

7. Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park
The ancient residence of the Tokugawa family moved and replaced to become the villa of the Taisho Emperor. (45 to 60mn)
8. Irohazaka Route
The windy road from Tosho-gu to Lake Chuzenjiko, famous for maples in fall.
9. Akechidaira Observation Area
Beautiful scenery of Nikko and Lake Chuzenji from the observatory. (30mn to 60mn)
10. Kegon Falls
One of the 3 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan.
11. Nikko Futarasan Shrine
Also taking part of the world heritage of UNESCO with Tosho-gu Shrine.

Bob-san leads a wonderful tour. He contacted me before the trip, gave detailed suggestions, and listened to our feedback.. The scenery was beautiful. The stops were efficient but never rushed. We had five days in Tokyo, so a day in Nikko was a relaxing change. Lunch was excellent. Be warned, the travel time is around two hours. Crowds were no problem for us, but may be a topic to ask Bob about on other days.

The tour was perfect. Our guide Yoshimi and our driver Toshi were very friendly and led us through Nikko and other sights with humor. The tour is a highlight and we can absolutely recommend it.

Both our guide, Ken, and our driver were amazing hosts during our day around Nikko! We were able to discover the beauty of the nature just outside Tokyo. The rich history of the culture and religion at the various Shrines and Temples. We enjoyed traveling to the “top”of Japan viewing the most serene and beautiful waterfalls and volcano made lakes. They ensured this day was extra special for our son’s birthday by arranging a birthday surprise and strawberry tart during our lunch. I can promise that Ken will ensure you have a memorable and amazing day in Japan on this tour. Thank you!!

The tour was great and the guide was very knowledgable. We had a great day catered to our group (2 adults, 2 toddlers).

But, if you ask me to plan it again I would get a car for 2 to 3 days and stay in Nikko for 1 or 2 nights as there is to much to see and do for 1 day especially if you want to include Edo Wonderland!
