Chaukhi Pass 3341 m is dividing Kazbegi region and Khevsureti. It is compelling due to a proximity of imposing Chaukhi massif with its many sharp peaks. At the other side of the pass, you will find meadows with intriguing rock formations (Roshka stones) and Abudelauri lakes - three beautiful alpine lakes with different colors (green, blue and white). Chaukhi pass is one of the highest and most beautiful passes in Georgia. We will do a trek from Juta village to Chaukhi Pass and back to show you how beautiful it is there.

We went on a full-day trekking expedition at the foot of Mount Chaukhi. The trek was spectacular. Our guide, David, was fantastic (and really necessary)! We organized everything last minute, but they did an amazing job arranging a perfect tour! Highly recommended.

Thanks Dato and thanks all 😀

We highly recommend the trek from Juta to Abudelauri Lakes via Chaukhi Pass! We signed up for this short two-day hike with Mountain Freaks. We were assigned two guides, Keti and Dato. I understand usually it's one guide only and we were a special case. Our guides were energetic, very capable and professional, and fun to be with. We were well taken care of during our trip.

We camped at the lakes so we hiked with tents and quite a bit of gear, which made it a little tough for less experienced hikers like us. However, it was totally worth it as the views along the way were breathtaking. Once we reached the Fifth Season in Juta, we were greeted with a picturesque view of the Chaukhi Massif framed by the valley slopes on both sides. Our hike took us through the valley towards and around the Massif, before we started the steep ascent and descent over the pass. On the way up we had the magnificent massif right next to us. On the descent we had the three beautiful lakes spread out across the land beneath our feet.

There's practically zero tree cover throughout the trail though, so while the views are unobstructed you need to protect yourselves from the strong sun. We were hiking in early July which is the middle of summer, but surprisingly there was still quite a bit of snow on the pass, which made it a little more tricky to navigate.

Overall it was a very memorable hike for us, as we had a good balance between difficulty and views. Stronger hikers can return to Juta on the second day via Sadzele Pass (we went back to Kazbegi from Roshka which was a long way round by car).
