Here is the only Studio Museum you can see and experience the authentic Kumihimo in Tokyo. You can witness the techniques of real craftsmen and historical braids which you may not find anywhere else.

We did this as a team building activity with coworkers, however I would have also enjoyed doing this with family. The tour before the craft was given in Japanese and my coworkers would offer some English interpretation for me. I was happy looking at the items and reading the signs. For the experience of braiding - it was fun, easy to learn, and I was very happy with my end product. The instruction was mostly done in Japanese, but it really wasn’t hard to follow. There was an English speaking instructor available but I didn’t really need her so we stuck with the gentleman. Excellent experience at a reasonable price. I highly recommend!

The kumihimo pieces in the museum collection were quite beautiful and exceptionally well made. Our Kumihimo instructor for the actual braiding was very helpful and patient.

This activity was wonderful! I had the most lovely instructors. It is neat hearing about this lost art form & how they are trying to bring it back. I loved making my own keychain (or bracelet I'd you want). You will not be disappointed!!

We returned to Domyo after six years to find a beautiful new space as well as an enriched learning environment. Previously, classes were taught in Japanese with just an English language printed sheet for support. Now, a Japanese teacher fluent in English leads the class and that makes a big difference. It’s easier to understand Kumihimo history, process, and outcomes. The teacher also offered a selection of marudai, each with a different colors, so that students could choose a palette that suited them.
