Experience this high-altitude ecosystem at 3800 meters of altitude filled with unique fauna and flora found nowhere else outside the Andes. A visit to a nature reserve in the Páramo of Sumapaz will make you feel like you have stepped onto another planet.
Difficulty: This trek is of high difficulty. It is required that you be in good physical condition due to the low air pressure present above 3500 m.a.s.l. The trails are uneven, steep and muddy most of the time. The elevation gain for this trek is about 400 mts, starting at 3400 meters. Keep in mind that each hour you spend hiking at high altitudes is the equivalent effort of two hours at sea level.
Note: This is not a private tour but a group tour and you could join other travelers at any moment during the tour

Our guide, Juan, was excellent--knowledgeable about the geography, geology, flora, fauna, history, etc., of the Sumapaz Paramo. We would do it again, but Juan has to be our guide!

Fantastic experience start to finish! Camilo and our driver were both very nice and punctual. We appreciated the English aspect of the tour which for 30 USD extra is 100% worth it. Great hike up to the paramo and learned a ton about the ecosystem. The drink and snack at the farmhouse was a nice addition too. They were very accommodating when my partner had to turn around due to illness.

Just 2 of us on the tour. Friendly driver, beautiful scenery. The guy who walked us up the trail didn't talk much, if at all. That would've been the difference for 4 or 5 stars. The 2 of us on the tour spoke Spanish so there was really no reason for him not to talk to us.

This was an amazing hike through an ecosystem that is only in few parts of the world. It was well worth the hike up to see the phenomenal views of the páramo. Camilo was also a helpful and patient guide with a lot of knowledge about the ecosystem and nature of the place. I could not have made this hike on my own. Highly recommended.
Some advice: Bring good hiking shoes, sunscreen, and lots of water. The weather can change at any moment, so also be prepared for the possibility of rain.

I would highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting Bogotá. I wanted to visit some of Columbia’s non-urban environments, and I learned about the páramo early in my trip and wanted to see the endemic plants. We were not disappointed! Juan Camilo was an excellent guide, and he taught us about the flora, fauna, as well as the special cultural and spiritual relevance of the páramo. Gustavo was an excellent driver, and we enjoyed meeting our local host. We are so glad we took this tour as it was throughly engaging from beginning to end, and we developed a deeper appreciation of this unique and fascinating biome.

This was an incredible hike and the guides were awesome. They were very knowledgeable and friendly. It was really nice to experience this amazing ecosystem and see an area so different than the city. I also liked visiting the farm and drinking the delicious milk.

I was so happy to do this day hike to the Sumapaz paramo with Hector, our driver/guide, and another solo hiker. We had a brilliant day spotting hummingbirds (which Hector said we were very lucky to see) but you couldn't miss the frailejones, they're everywhere! We had some spectacular, expansive views before the clouds rolled in. A good length day hike, very well-organised, and I appreciated the communication with Andres via Whatsapp to arrange the hike around the Easter holidays. So glad I didn't miss this!

Great hike. Hector, our driver and guide, did excellent job. He got us safely from our hotel to the hike and back. He was a very knowledgeable guide. The 3 hour hike was great. Highly recommend bringing rain gear
